Would people accept OSU moving to another conference?

  • First off there is no news of this happening, and there are no rumors of this happening.

Would we as OSU fans like or even entertain the IDEA of OSU moving to the SEC? If you thought about this in a rational way, and put the BIG homer thoughts to the side would that move get you excited as a fan?

As a fan i love the BIG, and love the tradition, and the rivalries. As a fan I also have to say I think it would be pretty exciting to see OSU playing in the SEC with the other power teams year in and year out. On a side note I do have to think just because of THE GAME that there would be a chance (if this were to ever come up) the TSUN and OSU would try to move to the same conference if one were to go.

    Any thoughts????

I want for THE OHIO STATE to become an independent!! I brought it up on more than few occastions to fellow fans and my opinion got mixed reviews. Move to another conference and carry more weak teams who fan bases who at the first sign of trouble (tat gate) want you to get the smu death penalty I'll pass. GO BUCKS!!

  • No. The SEC oversigns. Ohio State does not. Last thing we need is to play more games against opponents who have a competitive advantage over us. If it was a level playing field, I wouldn't care.

  • I would accept a move, but would prefer to stay in the Big 10. I would love to play another high profile out of conference game like Alabama, Florida, or LSU each year though. I think it would help to recruit the south if kids knew we would be playing a game in their area. I like the rivalries we have and would love to see Notre Dame enter the Big 10, but when they enter a conference they will probably enter the ACC, because they wouldn't finish in the top half of the Big 10.flex

  • The SEC has a conference rule that allows them to over sign players. I believe its 5, but I'm not sure on that. The only thing is you have to be at an 85 man roster by the close of summer camp. If the B1G wanted they could allow this rule to come in. This is just a rule in the NCAA book that needs to be revised. Anyways the Bucks need to stay right where there at. With the possibility of a 4 game playoff, no independent will ever have a chance to play for the National Champ. Example: Notre Dame. If Notre Dame wants to hold that Crystal Ball they will need to join a Conference. But there arrogance will probably never allow that.

  • No! The Big Ten and its members are proud of not our athletic achievements but also our academics as well! I'm not going to slurp the SEC because they are on a roll right now. I like the Big Ten and the rivalries we have. I love the direction the league is going. The last thing I want to do is join in the SEC circle jerk and be forced to cheer for every team in the conference! I love hating the teams in our conference and cheering against them in every bowl & tournament game. We'll just wait a year or so & start kicking the shit out of the SEC elite as a member of the B1G!

  • Yea I can see fans not wanting the oversign rule but just because other teams do it doesnt mean OSU has to. As far as being an idependent ND isnt irrelevant because they are independent when they were good they were independent. The only reason they cant win or compete for a NC is because they have not had a coach that is good enough to get them there. I seriously think(not saying I agree) that ND has the right idea in being independent if a 4 team playoff comes about. The only plus with being in a conference is that when it comes to the BCS conference teams that win get auto seeds for there conference bowl.

I also would like to see SEC teams in OSU regular season play and im not talking about Vandi.

I would definitely like to play stronger SEC teams in regular season. I'd just like to see the NCAA fix their competitive oversigning advantage sooner rather than later.

  • I use to like the Big 10 and its tradition yada, yada, yada, until I saw how they piled on Tressel during the Tat5 scandal, coaches included. And how fans and coaches from the BIG continue to pile on OSU and Meyer. Without without mentioning any names, that means you Bielema, et al.

So now my attitude is F@&$ the BIG. Without OSU the conference would fall apart and be no better than the MAC in football.

I use to always root for other Big10 teams in bowls and had genuinely positive feelings and a sense of comraderie toward in conference rivals, now I can honestly say that all I feel for the Wiskies, PSUs, MSUs and scUMs of this world is disgust.

Rest assured I will root for any SEC team over any of those Big10 schools in a head to head match up from here on out.

  • I will answer for everyone on here. YES WE WOULD ALL ACCEPT IT. You know why? Because we are all die hards and would have no choice. If they move, we are all going to piss and moan but it wouldn't matter. Because they are Ohio State and we love them lol.

First of all your suggestion of even a hypothetical move to the SEC is completely preposterous!
It would never be there. Not because the SEC fans and southerners in general would scoff at a "Yankee" school coming there but because it would make that conference too dominant and powerful. They'd publicly scoff at us coming there but privately they'd give up several schools in that conference if need be to make room for us. Because even in spite of them owning a 10-1 record vs us in bowl games, they know we're MAJOR and would give them a legitimacy they've NEVER had.
The only school from Ohio that would try and make a move to the SEC if they seek to expand to 16 would of course be Cincinnati.

Their chief argument for entry into that league would go something like this: "Georgetown Kentucky is a mere suburb of Cincinnati which isn't all that far from Lexington. Our people here speak with a southern twang. We call "dinner" "supper." We once played in the Missouri Valley conference where most of the schools were either on or just west of the Mississippi. So let us in PPPPPPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    sugarcrystal

  • In reality the only conference that'd make both logical and geographical sense for us to join would be the Big East.

We would bring great legitimacy to that conference in all sports.

The B12 already has heavyweights in Oklahoma and Texas. And beyond that, the travel for our fans would be too far to navigate.

If not the Big East, then we could easily go the Independent route. This would allow us to maintain our rivalry with Michigan and allow us to continue scheduling other B10 schools of our choosing. We could also schedule at least one SEC school/year as well.

    sugarcrystal

  • Accept it, yes. Prefer it, no. I like the idea of making the B1G stonger, by upping the level of competition. Its not like the S E C doesn't have its weak teams also. No way independent. Like said above, independents will have no chance at a championship. I would much prefer to see the B1G add somemore quality teams before the other conferences scarf them up.

    BuckDigger

  • What about the B12? I wouldn't mind seeing OSU go there. I would actually like for the B12 and B1G combine conference, and then trim the fat. You can have 1-2 shitty teams but that's it. 14 teams - Okl, TX, Okl State, Kansas (BB), WVU, Baylor (Academics/BB), Braska, OSU, UM, Wisky, MSU, Indiana (BB), PSU, Illini.

Plan B - you can sub in Northwestern in for Illini for Academics standards. But we really know it doesn't mean crap about academics, so if this is the case, drop NW and Baylor and add 2 more teams - maybe for BB reasons.

    Chuman

  • I like the idea of improving the B1G with better teams. It seems as if the B12 is just going to fall apart here soon because of the longhorn network which would leave all the remaining teams up for grabs. Oklahoma and OKST would be a package deal just like Texas/Texas Tech. It seems that the B1G would much rather have ND over all these teams just because of academics and the huge fan following.

If ND were to come to the B1G and B12 were to fall apart it would be cool to go after Texas and Oklahoma but because I dont see the "super conferences" going over 16 the B1G would need to find out which is more likely to come our way because of there package deals. Going off of where the schools are located you would think they would be more into the idea of being in the PAC 12.

  • Independent! On over signing. we can over sign up to 28 to get to 85 when not on limits. Probably would have saw that this year if not for NCAA troubles. I say play two schools from 4 or 5 different conferences the service academies and directional school 0r two for warm up.

  • (Insert nasty word of your choosing) NO!

Firstly, regardless of what is going on atm, there is something to playing not only Michigan, but all of the other Big10 teams - the historical relationships and rivalries are much too important (to me).

Secondly, switching just because of relative conference strength is not smart. Fifteen years ago the Big10 was a much better football conference than the SEC. Right now the Big10 is better in basketball. The SEC looks like it is in for a long run, but it could change over th enext ten years and then you've switched for nothing.

Thirdly, in the Big10 travel to away games is for the most part reasonable in both cost and time (well, maybe not with $4 per gallon gasoline). Switching to another major conference would make travel nearly impossible for many.

Some people have mentioned about scheduling a second out-of-conference football game with a significant opponent every year. I don't see it happening. It's tough to get good teams to want to play you, and it doesn't make much sense to put 2 risky games on the OOC schedule when most other schools have one or none. The Big10 recovering some of it's power would address much of that. If Michigan University rebounds under Jabba the Hoke, MSU continues it's run with Dantonio, and Wisconsin likewise with the Whiner, then we only need a few other teams to rise to that level to get theBig10 much closer to the SEC. Among Nebraska, Penn St, Illinois and Iowa (in the near term) hopefully we can see that. And frankly, the rest of the Big10 (Indy, Purdue, Minny, NW) has a ways to go but all of those programs seem to be possibly heading in the right direction. Also, while the cream of the SEC is as good as ever, there seems to be more of a dropoff now once you get into the pack. A few years ago the SEC was killer top to bottom, to me it doesn't seem so anymore.

BTW, does losing a title game 21-0 hurt more than 41-14? I sure hope so.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

we got 8 what you got? Im a OSU football fan Mom is from cbus and Dad is from KY. That being said Mom made me a OSU football fan and Dad a UK basketball fan and couldnt root for anyone else. Never would have thought 3 pictures and a title would make you feel so angry that not only would you leave a comment bashing me about which teams i like but would also down vote me, like being down voted is going to keep anyone from posting something.

No lie I love OSU football as much as the next buckeye but being a fan of a different team during basketball season shows me why so many fan bases hate us and isnt because of winning. Its because of pure ignorance and certain fans that have no tolerance for another teams fans because nobody could ever be a fan of a team other than OSU right.

    Go Big Blue!!!!!!
