I would add Wash. St. as a winner. Leach is a huge upgrade that will at least make them exciting to watch. One of the Zona teams should've taken him.

+1. WSU is the clear runner-up...so far. But they also had to make a bold move so hiring an eccentric, defrocked coach with a tarnished past like Leach wasn't the least bit surprising. I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd brought back Mike Price. I think Rich Rod will do well at AZ. With the right triggerman for his spread in a shoot 'em up conference that doesn't play great D, he could do well. Great article in SI this week about his hiring. He seems to have been humbled by the mistakes he made at Michigan. Aside from USC, which is on probation, the Pac-12 South is up for grabs and playing catch-up to Oregon and Stanford. Leach could have a much harder row to hoe because right now, the Pac-12 North is tougher than the South. I think ASU's a sleeping giant. It's now the largest single-campus in the country with 10K more students than #2 OSU, has great weather, Top 10 metro. I'm curious to see who they hire.

    Nah...

    Arizona got DickRod!

So who besides USC and Stanford is going to play defense in the Pac?

College football as a whole should be happy that Neuheisel is out. How can they suck so bad and still play the Pac10 championship? How can you not recruit quality kids to play college football in the Rose Bowl for UCLA every week? IT'S LA, you can't win in Pasadena? Terry Donahue was coach the last time they were relevant. They got undressed by the Ducks who can't be top talent from other BCS conferences! SC might be the better team in their conference but they're ineligible.

  • I've always wondered this. For people that have been to Los Angeles (and spent significant time there), you have to wonder how USC became the prime destination over UCLA. UCLA is located in beautiful Westwood Village which is between Santa Monica, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills. Meanwhile USC is south of Pico and is situated between a few different ghettos. It never made sense. Sure, the Colosseum is awesome but the Rose Bowl is, well, the Rose Bowl.
