  • Is also on trial as the jury for Sandusky is selected. Many of the jurors have deep PSU ties. If he walks, I won't even write or say what should happen to that town and school.........

  • Juror 1: A woman and Wal-Mart employee. She has two daughters. She said she doesn’t know much about the case.
Juror 2: A 24-year-old man who plans to start school in the fall to study automotive technology.
Juror 3: A woman whose husband is a physician in the same medical group in which John McQueary, the father of one of the key witnesses in the case, worked. The woman also has been a football season ticket holder since the 1970s.
Sandusky's attorney had moved to strike the woman as a juror, but Judge John Cleland overruled his objection.
"We're in Centre County. We're in rural Pennsylvania," Cleland said. "There are these (connections) that cannot be avoided."
Juror 4: An engineer who is married to a librarian. "I do read blogs and papers,” he said. “I did make a point of avoiding stories about this case. I reach a saturation point about 2 ½ months ago. Once I received the summons I thought it would be better not read anyone."
Juror 5: A Bellefonte High School physics and chemistry teacher. He has two boys, ages 5 and 2. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Penn State in 2003 and 2008. Asked by the defense attorney if he could be fair because he has two young boys, he says he could. He said he doesn't read too many newspapers and if he does, it’s the sports section. He said he knows about the case but not beyond common knowledge.
Juror 6: A married woman in her 20s. She works at a department store. She doesn't read the newspapers and said she has not heard any specific details of the case. She said she has no opinion about the case.
Juror 7: A Penn State junior who works part-time for the university’s sports facility. He is in his 20s and does administrative work for track and softball. He wore a Penn State archery T-shirt. He read a lot about the case and had opinions, he said, but could put them aside for the trial.
His cousin also played on the Penn State football team for six years, and his mom works for the State College Area School District. He said his mom knows more, but has not shared it with him.
Juror 8: A retired Penn State professor in his late 60s or early 70s. He is married and worked as a soil science professor in the Department of Agriculture for 37 years. He’s been retired for four years.
Juror 9: A retired woman in her 70s.
Juror 10: She works at Penn State as an administrative assistant in engineering. She doesn't know anyone in case. She has two daughters and four grandchildren.
Juror 11: A 30-year-old woman who worked part-time at Penn State as a dance class instructor. She said she has had conversations with her husband about the case. Her husband is a media specialist at the Larson Institute at Penn State. She has a Facebook account, has watched television and read newspapers, but hasn't seen information recently. She knows one potential witness through her dance connections, she said. She has one son, age 6. She has not experienced abuse in her life.
Juror 12: A woman in her 50s or 60s who has been a Penn State professor for 24 years. She did not say what she teaches or what department she works in. She said she has read some news accounts and the Sandusky grand jury report. She also worked on a small committee with ousted Penn State President Graham Spanier.

That's a pretty broad statement to indict an entire university and community for the potential actions of a few. To be honest, a jury that is highly tied to the university would bode well for the prosecution. What this man has done is reprehensible and deserving of severe punishment. He has disgraced the university, its alumni and its supporters through his association to it. If they are connected to Penn State and care for it the way you probably care about Ohio State, I'm sure he will get all that is coming to him.

On January 31st, the Commonwealth filed a motion to change venue, noting that "the unique nature of the Penn State community" requires it because "[t]he life of the University and Centre County are inextricably intertwined; both philosophically and economically." Of course, the Commonwealth was careful to "stress that this Motion expresses no editorial view of the motivation of capacity of any member of the Penn State community who might be called to serve as a juror."

I hope so. I posted on your board right after JoePa was removed as I never believed he would be involved. However, after reading some of the posts by your brethren I became sick to my stomach. Some actually discussed the positions Sandusky would have to be in to actually be able to perform sodomy in the shower. I lost a lot of respect for the University as this WAS a cover up.

  • I'm not sure this is a big issue....this is a Sandusky trial, not the whole PSU cover-up trial. I think even PSU fans/alum want Sandusky buried. Now, if it were the people accused of covering up etc...that would be a concern having PSU ties on jury, because a conviction in something like that could effect the university going forward if the NCAA decides to get involved or lawsuits or anything else. Sandusky getting convicted would be a good thing, not a bad thing for PSU.

I hope so. I know there are good people in Happy Valley. I also believe in innocent until proven guilty, but it sounds like the mountain of evidence draws an obvious conclusion.

100% correct. The trial to keep an eye on for foogie-foogie stuff is the one for the AD and Pres.

Count me in there too. It was extremely sick to read some of the stuff posted by them. Putting football and the university ahead of those children that were took advantage of. When the tat 5 and Tressel stuff was going on, Penn State fans were the loudest and most snob nosed acting so uppity. Tressel not telling the truth about some stupid tattoo stuff will never been in the same galaxy as this sick Sandusky stuff. If he gets some minimal sentence then the FBI needs to run that cult university

Dude appears to have been an absolute wack job of the first order! It looks as if the AD and Pres covered it up to save the reputation of the school because it went on right in front of their noses for years and he used his position and PeeSU's facilities to do it. JoePa didn't do enough to stop it. The only reason he wasn't included in the indictment is because PA law only requires a "teacher" to inform their supervisor. He did that. If cover up is proven, and those two are convicted, the law suits could be priceless and endless.

Anyone who remembers the "Chester the Molester" cartoon in Hustler Magizine in the 70s & 80s knows Jerry is an absolute dead ringer for Chester. That's scary!

JoePa would have been charged with a crime in Ohio. That is absolute fact. Mandatory reporters must report directly to Children's Services or the police. Telling your boss does not meet the requirement.

I think it is possible he could have been charged in many other states. A very good friend of mine is a teacher in PA. She is who informed me of this law. Looks to me as if they just found a loop hole to not charge him. Even though (morally) he could have, & certainly should have done much more, he checked the box so he had his get out of jail free card. Kind of like Mike McCrary not beating that fat, old queen's ass the second he saw what he says he saw. This 25+ something y.o. former D-1 college athlete ran home and talked to daddy, daddy made some calls, then a pow-wow was held at JoePa's house a day or two later. Then, cue the crickets! "Hey Jerry, hows about giving us your keys to the store now." That's about it. In the mean time, kids kept getting porked by this goofy, fat, weird, old perv! Now, 10 years later, we all begin to smell the real taint that has been going on over @ PeeSU for years!
I guess I've been wrong about all there was to do in State College was to get drunk and go cow tipping, or "chip throwing." State College: where the men are men, and the women are obviously bored as hell! No longer will we hear the "We are...Penn State chant. The new chant will be...."Now let's you just drop them pants! This here boy looks like a big ol' sow don't he? Squeal like a pig! Squeal louder!! Weeeeeeee!".....LOL!

  • That parasite and his actions almost single handedly destroyed a university and a community. Thinking because jurors that have ties to the university will protect him and be easy on him is the most idiotic concept you could fabricate. JS will rot unfortunately not in general population he wouldn't last longer than 5 minutes there. As you guys have said before his position statues/contractual terms binded him to following up to his superiors and when placed at their feet gaffed and hopefully they will be dealt with in due time. You can say Joe failed morally (and rightfully so) but no one is guilty in this country by public perception or opinion thankfully so what people may think about him is irrelevant to everyone but themselves.

i dont think anyone is saying joe pa is an awful person or didnt have the right intentions for 99.8% of his entire life. i think what gets me is that he did seem so moral and always willing to do the right thing, and anyone in their right mind that thinks he did the right thing my simply "telling his superiors," lacks morals and values. first of all, joe pa had no superiors at penn state, this had been proven when they asked him to step down the first time and he said no. secondly, im 23 and i know if someone came to me and said they saw what mcquaide had seen id tell him let's call the police. why mcquaide didnt do it himself, who knows. i can understand a 27 year old GA being scared more than a man who created penn state into what it is like joe pa

I agree 100 percent here. I am giving Paterno benefit of the doubt as I am sure he took guilt to the grave. I also think Paterno handles this better when he was younger and more of sound mind.

I am glad you feel the way you do about Sandusky. I am not saying these people will let him off due to their affiliation with PSU. Just remember, you know that is EXACTLY what the media sources will say if he is acquitted. And you thought the media swarm last November was bad? You had better hope he is convicted because a butt scope procedure while wide awake will seem like a vacation with what will happen to PSU.
