Another big time DE in the works?

  • How are all these DE's going to work out? Are we gonna plump them up with mashed potatoes and gravy to play DT? Or, give them ex lax to play LB?

  • Who cares? Bring 'em on!!

As a DL play addict, I have to say that this is intriguing. Looks like Coach Meyer and Fickell are going to be daring other teams to play offense and see who gets smacked the hardest and first!!

    blackeye

For me it will be fun watching teams amass a grand total of 3 yrds/ game on offense as I doubt ANYONE in the Big10 will able to run the ball at all!!!

    NICE!

  • I say come on down! Talk about a studly defensive. This guy could probably play multiple positions as he is only 225 6-3

  • Urban realizes where a NC is won. The DL is the difference in college football now days. I see a two deep rotation.. Always a fresh guy in on every play. Teams won't be able to run and to much pressure to throw the ball.
    Damn I'm excited!!!!

    dkbuckeyes

  • Well, couple of reasons IMO.

    * Urban knows how important DL play is. It really doesn't matter how good the opposing QB is if he doesn't have time to throw the ball and spends the whole game running for his life (see Smith, Troy in NC game Vs. Florida)

    * We will be running a "crazy" tempo offense. This means our defense will play far more snaps than they normally would over the course of a game. So you have to have enough bodies to quickly rotate them in every other drive, and maybe even during drives to maintain pressure on the opposing offense. LBs and DBs do not get as tired throughout the game as the DL because they simply don't have to output the kind of effort and energy the DL does on every single snap, so it makes sense if you're going to build depth on defense, the DL is the most important place.

    Razorback

  • Razor, good point about the new crazy offense. It will put the DL on the field more. Urban knows he needs two or maybe three deep.

    Great analogy, Razor!

    We need WR's and OL.

Simon, Goebel, Williams graduate and Big Hank leaving early. (maybe)That is four guys who have played alot of games. We need 8 new d-lineman to step up and create a two deep next season. You have to expect some injuries, transfers and guys not living up to expectations. I don't think we have a single senior WR and only one senior OL that was a TE. Urban knows best!

This!! The speed difference of SEC teams is not at the skill positions. It has been and is still on the defense line and to a certain degree linebacker. In 2006 and 2007 we could not block Florida or LSU's d-line. Even SEC offensive lines have trouble blocking and containing the defense fronts in their conference. I say bring in as many fast, athletic d-lineman as you can and watch the other guys run for their lives.

Many DLinemen can play OLine as well.

Perhaps Meyer's plan is to let them fight it out on defense and then move the ones who don't cut it on DLine to OLine.

    BuckeyeMark

  • National Titles are won on the DLINE....urban proved that in 06....and so did LSU when they ran the ball down our Dlines Throat.....

  • With Kenny Hayes moving on it is possible another DE would be added.

    BuckeyeMark

  • Only way is if a) it's Tyquan Lewis or b) some 2/3-star late bloomer whose stock goes up during the season or c) Bosa decommits. (A pox on me for even thinking such heresy, much less actually saying it.) Otherwise, I think we have higher priorities at OT, WR and LB for the 4-6 spots we have left to fill.

    I would agree.

Although Urban Meyer recruits DEs like Tressel recruited LBs and DBs.

When Hayes announced he was transferring Urban may have called every uncommitted 4-5 star DE in a 20 state radius.

So, it can not be ruled out.
