Anzalone decommitment reason

  • To be clear, the sex offender isn't "linked" to Ohio State, or at least I didn't see that anywhere in the article. Just that the OSU compliance department took notice of this guy immediately, ran a background check on him, and warned everyone to basically stay away from him.

  • I wanted to post something like "this is why social networking should be banned for all student athletes" but then I remembered that this kid is still in high school. I can't believe this dumb a$$ caused one of our best recruits to decommitt. I'm seeing some current and former players tweeting at Anzalone about not letting this guy to cause him to decommitt. I can't help but be on Anzalone's side, or his parents' side, because I wouldn't want to be in this type of situation.

    It just really really puts a cramp in my stomach. DAMN!

  • Yes, alumni and "boosters" are doing real harm to our athletic department. Anzalone was a kid who really looked forward to being a Buckeye and, if what we hear is true, it is not now possibleThe next NCAA violations will bring very severe penalties including a probable two year bowl ban. Better to lose a few commits that suffer further sanctions. We are still on probation and under NCAA scrutiny as a "repeat offender."

  • I'm really worried about this. Who knows how many players this guy has been hanging out with. Hopefully no serious allegations occur but this could further harm our image and turn off recruits.

    This. They were not tied to that weirdo. USC just had two murders on campus, this world if full of lunatics.
    How about the justice department locking these losers up?
    Rumor was Anzalone's dad was trying to talk him out of his commitment for over week, he go this reason.
    Kids are out late drinking all over town and campus, how do you stop contacts with moronic losers like these? You can't.
    This is not an official visit like game official' with host, these kids are out on their own afterwards in town and in the bars.

    I'm confused as to what "this type of situation" is? If you are scared of this type of situation then you should lock your child in a basement. This kid will take pictures with fans at any school he attends. His parents, coaches, friends and teammates won't be able to know or stop this from happening if it just so happens to be with a registered sex offender.

    Again, this is just a great excuse for his dad to get his son out of a school he didn't want him going to in the first place. There is no way the coaching staff or compliance office could have stopped this unless they literally start doing background checks on everyone who enters the stadium and then locks up the student athletes after they leave the stadium.

I am sure there are convicted sexual predators living within miles of his house. Look it up, everyone does, no matter where you live. All of this is very strange. The guy was not an employee of tOSU and went to a public autograph signing and public places and met players. Not sure what anyone at OSU could have done to prevent it other than to do background checks on every person that a recruit or player meets. Yes the guy is a creep, but what could anyone really have done different to prevent this? tOSU did what it should after finding out. I am sure most people have no idea who is tweeting them or if it is even a man/woman/or child doing it. Twitter accounts of @bdubtriviaguru do not exactly scream creepy pedophile.

    Well said. The dad wasn't happy his kid committed to OSU so early. Waugh is a turd, but this appears to be a very loud excuse thus far. What is Sal's affiliation with PeeSU? Any?

  • You can't control every idiot and hanger on that walks on campus. If this is the reason he decommitted, what the hell are you going to do? Not a student, faculty member, employee or alumni! He can be on Stanford campus or any other school on Monday. OSU handled it the correct way. If Anzalone decides this is the best place for him then he will have a great experience with a great fan base. Go Bucks! The sky is not falling.

  • Honestly, this is an absolutely ridiculous overreaction by Alex's father. Unless there is something I don't know here, his dad should be embarrassed by how he reacted. Now, I'm not defending this guy who was a convicted sex offender, but in this situation he was only guilty of being an overzealous fan, and every university has those. He took a picture with these recruits, not because he was planning on slipping something in their drink and raping them, but because like MANY other OSU fans, "knowing" a player or recruit is seen as a badge of honor. With the amount of people on campus at any given time, you simply can't think that as a campus "celebrity" that you are never going to run into someone with a criminal record. Is that a reason to bash the coaching staff for not "protecting" your kid from these people or to rescind your commitment? I guess it is if you are a delusional sheltered coward with no grasp on the real world. In my opinion, goodbye and good luck. You might as well move in with your parents and commute to the local community college.

    another issue was that his parents wanted him to stay close to home too. so i think PSU is gonna be it

    Sal Anzalone did say they haven't eliminated us from possiblities, he feels they still could choose OSU per comment.
