Concerns Over Lack of OL & WR Commits?

  • lolQuality Depth begins with Quality Recruiting.. Where the hell are these guys at? When are they coming? Who will the first one's be? Wr options still seem aplenty, are we nearing a point however from an Offensive Line standpoint that we are risking spots for better positional players if we take the remaining OL that are available....? The quality at that position that seems to have interest in OSU seems to be thining out more then my hairline! haha!

  • the laughing dude should be at the end of this paragraph. Oh heres another question considering I am a Browns fan, The wr that are currently on OSU roster.... better then what the Browns have on theirs? Im thinking so unfortunately banghead

  • As Lee Corzo would say, "Not so fast" my friend. OL seems to be picking up a bit of late as of course so is WR recruiting. Johnson from Pennsylvania and Gray from DC to go along with Pocic I think the chances are still good for a solid OL Class in 2013. Of course any three of Foster, North, Treadwell, Quick, Allen and Gibson would represent a good WR Class. Just sit tight the action at these positions is just starting to begin.

  • You guys slumming on the free board or what? lol. What Meyer has done so far has been amazing. 2014 I think is when we see the real progress though. Already making in roads with a lot of recruits, building relationships. Still some nice players as mentioned above to round out this class.

  • good thoughts, I knew WR had many possibilities, just feel like all the news out there on the O-line we seemed to be missing out on some of the targets. I guess the other thing I have seen is that depending on how Decker and Dodson come along this year, what we thought was intially as a position of need may not be as bad of. Here's hoping we get what we really need... play makers!

  • Free boards contain OSU fans? I dont judge whether you pay to be on here or not... I talk osu football with anyone.. #common man

  • According to Rivals, we've only offered 14 offensive lineman and all but Rodgers, Pocic, Grey and Johnson have committed, and that includes Lisle. We'll be okay once we see the kids who were 6-4/250 juniors grow into 6-5/280 seniors, and will ne 6-6/300 college freshmen.

Iowa you also forgot to mention Darius Latham, out of Indiana.

  • No one remembers we landed Dodson and decker at deadline last year, we already have lisle. Decker looked like the hulk at the spring game! Dodsons on his way back and ive heard in the best shape of his life. Our receivers will be fine, marshals on board already, Thomas looked really good at spring game, southward will be here soon as well. We still have a lot of time, the high school season hasn't even started conditioning yet. I thought last year we were in trouble, we're looking a lot better this year so let UFM do his job!

  • I wonder if some of the top WR's want to see what the new offense does this coming year before getting on board. I would think that everything else would be tempting, but if you are a 4 start recruit you have many options. When we start cranking out 400 to 500 yds per game this fall, they will all be falling over each other to get in on the action.

    BKshepherd

  • I think we will get a couple big time recievers. Remember, WR's are divas and will drag out this out. they need to b shown the love!bow

also our line is already deeper than at any point under Bolls. i would love to add Pocic and Rodgers and i think we will.flex

  • This has been a strange couple of months. Multiple prospects I felt good about before now seems the ship may have sailed. Pocic and Green seemed like future Buckeyes and of course Neal and Anzalone. My gut is telling me we don't get any of the four. The season can't get here quick enough. A packed stadium will do wonders for recruiting, let's put the focus on what matters and not this other soap opera shit.

U r soooo right. Other schools arre taking shots at Urban and its working but once they see Urban's buckeyes all that BullShip wont matter. Until then its going to be a little difficult.banghead

I was going by Rivals, which lists Latham, Price and Munger all as DTs.

    iowabuckeyes

  • Ah, I see Latham as being able to play anywhere on the line( except LT). He is that athletic, hell he is a power forward for his AAU basketball team.

So as far as OL I think we get Latham, Gray, and Rodgers. (Lisle already in fold.)

WR- Foster, Gibson, Quick or my dark horse Rashard Samples. (Marshall already in fold.)

  • kinda sweet the what I am hearing came in this morning with some updated info!

  • I think there is plenty of time before national signing day. I think Pocic is for the most part a lock but would like to stay quiet about it. We have a good shot at Dorian Johnson if we are able to get him away from Pitt and Penn State. If Rodgers wants to wait til AA game there might not be a spot left for him if our schollies are gone.

In all honesty I hope we get Robert Foster but I still think it's a long shot. I've read that Foster and Urban have patched things up but I think Foster is all about himself and I don't think we need that on our roster. Mark my word now I think we are the team to beat now for Treadwell because of Urbans offense for play markers.

I think our lack of OL and WR is nothing of a concern. I think Urban will get the guys he needs and finish out the recruiting class in the top 3.

  • We take one OT Pocic is the best guess
We have Price as a DL recruit and Munger at DL but either one can play OG
We have Marshall at WR and will sign Gibson and either Foster or Quick.

    Buckrock

  • Am I alone in thinking we are in pretty good shape all around, even OL and WR. I am less concerned with commits we have now in May and am more concerned about who will be there on National Signing Day. I think we will do quite well when the dust settles!

I think we'll be OK at WR. The bar was very low--our top WR last year only had 14 catches. I think Smith, Spencer, Brown, and Thomas all have the ability to step up. TY Williams, Fields, Southward, Frankie E are all TBD. I have to believe 2-3 of these guys will step up and prove to be playmakers in Urban's offense.

But our OL does give me cause for pause. I wouldn't trade any of our OLs for scUM's but I do wish we had their depth, especially more young players. The risk of injury aside, with a senior and four juniors slated to start in 2012, we need to be ready for a total OL makeover in 2014.

    iowabuckeyes

  • It is only the month of May. It may just be my gut feeling but I truly believe that we will have a top 5 recruiting class come February 2013. Once the season begins and many recruits get a chance to see the type of offense Meyer has installed they will be lining up to where the scarlet and gray.

    psmack

  • Look. It's way early in the recruiting process fro 13'.
The Coaches want to see these recruits especially WR's, workout at the summer Nike camps.
Forget the panic. Your getting top talent that you've not seen before or would even consider Ohio St.

I have a sneaky suspicion that ever since USC jumped in the picture with Pocic, I think they are the team to beat. Don't know why just a gut feeling, plus we just extended an offer to J.P. Vonashek, 6'6 270 lbs out of Georgia.
