How Many Stars Would You Give Our 2013 Targets?

  • Over the past 10 years, I've learned one thing about college football recruiting. The glorified star system has little to no relevance as to how a lot of these high school studs turn out in college. 5 star studs like Connor Smith fall by the way side while 2 star nobodies like Brian Robiskie go high in the NFL draft. Recruiting is an inexact science. It will always be that way. That said, I am still a sucker for seeing how the recruits Ohio State pursues are rated. Unfortunately for me (and guys like me) we won't get to see how national recruiting services view Ohio's crop of 2013 talent until April of next year at the earliest (and that's just 25 five star players on scout.com.) So in the mean time, we can only guess how our future recruits will be viewed. That said, I've decided that I will play the role of a scouting service and judge each recruit Ohio State is going after and award stars (and national position rank) accordingly. Feel free to add to this list or change it to the way you see it. There are no right or wrong answers. It's all in fun. Since it's already been determined that Ohio State has interest from a lot of out of state recruits, I'll be adding them to this list as well. Here we go!

Cameron Burrows- #2 CB- 5 Stars
Jalin Marshall- #3 QB- 5 Stars
Derrick Green- #4 RB- 5 Stars
    Lovell Peterson- #2 C- 5 Stars
Jaylon Smith- #4 DE- 5 Stars
Tim Kimbrough- #4 OLB- 5 Stars
Dymonte Thomas- #5 RB- 5 Stars
Eli Woodard- #7 CB- 4 Stars
Shaquille Wiggins- #8 CB- 4 stars
Tashawn Bower- #7 DE- 4 Stars
Jonathan Allen- #9 DE- 4 Stars

Darrien Howard- #25 MLB- 3 stars
Sean Welsh- #24 OG- 3 stars
Colin Goebel- #29 OG- 3 stars

The list has really improved, guys. Let's keep adding to it. Also, remember to feel free to mention whether you think someone on this list is overrated or underrated. This board will be modified per your opinions.

UPDATE: I've decided that I will alter this main list as you guys influence me. New names will be added and current ratings will be altered as you give your opinions. Let's see how comparable our list is when Rivals, 247, and Scout release their rankings.

These are my projections so far. It's definitely a modest list so feel free to jump in and give your own ratings or add new names as you see fit.

If you are looking to predict how many stars espn will give those guys i would tell u to drop all of them by 1 star right now. Of course, i guess that only applies if all of them are interested in tOSU. God forbid any of them verbal to tOSU then its a sure thing they drop a star or 2 once espn "updates" their rankings during the season.

  • I'll add jalyn powell to the mix. I really like his tape on scouting Ohio. 4 stars # 13 athlete

  • Just watched his tape again make that # 6 ranked athlete really like this kid

I hear what your saying. However, I only plan to compare this board to "real" recruit evaluation sites like scout, rivals, and 247.

  • Hey ya'll. I just updated the list to include Denzel Talifero, Jonathan Allen, Tashawn Bower, and Tim Kimbrough. I've listen one of these athletes as a future 5 star. You might be surprised at which one. Check out the list and remember to feel free to suggest players to add and mention which players you see on the list as overrated or underappreciated and I'll alter the list per your suggestion.

  • Im just gona add a few players to the list.

    DeVeon Smith- #12 HB - 4 stars
Kevin Gladney- #35 WR- 3 stars
    De'Niro Laster- #30 WR- 3 stars
Rob Wheelwright- #15 WR- 4 stars
Shelton Gibson- #22 WR- 4 stars

Ben Gedeon- #20 ATH- 3 stars
Reon Dawson- #15 ATH- 4 stars
Malik Zaire- #18 ATH- 4 stars

this is just an estimate w/out me watching the films. Ive seen most of the players films for a few minutes, followed up on the articles about the players on Buckeye sites (Scout, Rivals, 247)
These are all players being recruited by OSU & have OSU interests.

Whew, Bucknut8! That's quite a hefty extension to our list. I love it. I'll get to work on it right away. Thanks for the info!

haha yeah sorry. Didnt think it would end up being so many adds. This might sound, i dont know, like weird but then not. But on Microsoft Word 07, I have put together a great list of the 2013 players that currently have high interests in OSU or have OSU's interest. If you would like me to send you the list, I can inbox it to you. That way you have it & its not taking up so much space on this thread.
But yeah I have been keeping my eyes & ears open for this 2013 class. I see alot of instate talent this year, possibly better than the 2012 class. Wont be as deep instate but there are more players that are above the class that what there were in 2012. OOS recruiting will be a GREAT pick up for 2013 class.

Absolutely. That would be great. I'd really appreciate it. I'm with you. I am stoked about the 2013 class. I truly believe it is the best chance we'll have in years to land a consensus number 1 recruiting class. Most of us are optimistic about the NCAA sanctions (especially since the hearing was only 4 hours long.) And it seems these kids aren't fazed by any of it like the 2012 kids were. My only concern is the coaches' slow playing philosophy and the silver tongues of Brady Hoke, Brian Kelly, and Nick Saban (amongst others) causing these kids to sway away from the good guys. Hopefully Fickell hits the trail hard and gets our superstars (Marshall, Green, Smith, Burrows, etc.) and ropes in a large and talented group of offensive linemen (especially tackles), in addition to adding talented depth. There is no reason we shouldn't land at least five 5 star players, ten 4 star players, and a couple hidden gem 3 star players to give us our greatest recruiting class in recent memory.

+1! You just said what I have been trying to say to people on this site ever since the tat gate stuff started. Im no longer worried about the 2012 class. What happens, happens, time to move on & get 2013 class started.
In State for 2013, we have 5 absolute players that are MUST gets in Marshall, Young, Peterson, D. Thomas, & Burrows.
Last time I heard Marshall Young & Burrows are all OSU leans.
    D. Thomas has UM in front but im guessing cuz we are slow playing him. If Dunn stays in S&G, I think Thomas will come here. So do what we gota do to keep Dunn, then Dunn can do the work for us by getting Thomas.
Peterson has OSU & Bama out in front & most likely always will. Offer the kid NOW & get B.Miller on his A**!
OOS is also loaded w/ Buckeye leans. Such as D. Green, J. Smith, B. Hodges, T. Kimbrough, E. Woodard & you can consider T. Bower & J. Allen as Buckeye leans. So look for 85% of all the IS & OOS top prospects mentioned above to be in S&G! thumbsup
I will also message you my list. Its long so be prepared!!! Go Bucks!

The Kimbrough kid is very good. Long, athletic, speed, gets into coverage quick. Has great instincts and is very physical/big hitter.

    That might be the case

  • Warren Central (IN) opened season last night at Merrillville(ranked #10 in Indiana). WC won the game 64-13 and 2013 LB Tim Kimbrough was credited w/ 11 solo tackles.7 assists and 3 or 4 big hits.

  • Well guys, so far, 247 agrees with 2 of our 5 star selections. They just released the first 5 star 2013 prospects and Jalin Marshall and Jaylon Smith are both on the list. So far, so good. Let's see how the rest of their rankings play out. In the mean time, keep pitching your prospects to add to the list and suggest what changes should be made to the players currently on the list.

signature image signature image signature image
  • I just added two more players to the list. QB's Kyle Bolin (Lexington, KY) and Kyle Stahl (St. Henry). Credit goes to Bucknut8 (who, so far, is this list's biggest contributor).

  • Whats the word on Nigel Hayes- Bball or Football?

Also thought Gladney was suppose to be a big time WR, why just the 3 stars.

Class is shaping up to be great and seems most of the kids are buckeye leans no matter who the coach is.

    Yes I have been. lol
I will continue to research key prospects for osu in the 2013 recruiting class and continue to give you the updates and info to help make this one of the best threads on the bucknuts 247 website.
I watched more film on Kevin Gladney & just like canadabuck10 said "he is a big time player"
I have put him now as a 4star prospect & a top 25 WR in the country. He is also a big buckeye lean

Alright, guys. I'll give him a boost. I don't feel he's a "can't miss" guy yet. I like how he goes up for the ball in traffic and from what his highlights show, he has good hands and can catch the ball away from his body. That said, he didn't seem to have a good amount of burst or top end speed. I think he has good game speed and that should be sufficient. I'm going to say 4 star, 29th best receiver in the nation. I just have to see more film on the guy before I give him a huge ratings boost.

I truly believe Nigel Hayes is, at this point, primarily a Bball recruit.

  • Ben Gedeon from Hudson. He plays QB & LB. He wont play QB in college, especially not OSU. But @ LB, he could be the top LB in Ohio. So I watched some more film on him, and he looks like he could be a strong canidate for a 4 star rating and prolly a top 20 LB in the Nation.

  • That malik zaire is moving up and is a qb dont sleep on him or he will be gone.

  • Seems about right .You do realize you can take Dymonte Thomas,Camerson Burrows,Taco Charleton,Jake Butt and Ben Gedeon off the OSU list right .all these kids say they will be Wolverines. and of the 9 kids from the 2012 class that said they were gonna be Wolverines (before they committed) all 9 are committed ..so i would bet those 5 are 100% BLUE... i know Dymonte,Burrows and Charelton are the only 3 of the group that are committed or already gave their commit to Hoke ,but im willing to bet the other 2 will be too....

    signature image
  • apparently your on something bro. Cam Burrows has said a million times that OSU leads by far for his services. Dymonte is overrated. Ive seen him play in person about 5 times. Against good competition, he isnt nothing.
Jake Butt dosnt even have a UM offer. He grew up a Buckeye fan. He liked his UM visit but wants to be a buckeye.
    Burrows is all buckeye buddy!
Charlton grew up a big buckeye fan & wants an offer. Liked his UM visit. we will see what happens?
Gedeon has a UM offer, but grew up a OSU fan & ND fan. wants an OSU offer. hes up for grabs.

I love how you come to an OSU site and talk shit. stop reading that bullshit up north.
2012 class is full of kids that OSU didnt want.
Kalis is a bitch. you need to understand that Kalis is stupid. you dont go from OSU to UM in 2 weeks.
what would you think of Kalis if he was a Oklahoma commit and then switched to Texas??? thats the same story. he was NATIONALLY considered an idiot!
Wormley was bound for UM anyway!
Tom Strobel would of been OSU bound if this BS didnt happen w/ Tat 5 & Tress Gate. you guys could use him more than us anyway, no loss here.
Pharoah Brown is someone that OSU didnt want! Same with Joe Bolden! Jarrod Wilson! Kaleb Ringer! AJ Williams! Caleb Stacy! Allen Gant!!
UM has 10 ohio commits. only 3 had OSU offers & 1 was bound for UM anyway.

so please! pretty please stop the bull shit on here.
    GO BUCKEYES!
