Deshone Kizer 2014

  • I noticed we're recruiting a few 2014 QBs hard, including William Crest out of MD and Drew Barker out of KY is getting interest from the staff, as well. What about Ohio's own Deshone Kizer? I know the staff is recruiting him hard, but I haven't heard much interest out of Kizer in OSU. Has anyone heard much about what he's thinking? I know he grew up cheering for Michigan and is a top basketball player, as well, but does that mean we aren't in the mix? The fellow has a sweet looking arm and can really create plays with his legs, as well, so I'd hate to see him trade away.

    I asked some similar questions on Trevon Hudson and a few people including BuckeyeCrusader and Steps1110 stepped up with some great info. Does anyone have a similar skinny on Kizer?

  • Only thing I know is that him and Jayme Thompson go to the same school (Central Catholic). So if we wanted him, I am sure Thompson would help.

    I have a friend who is an assistant varsity BB coach at Toledo Central and he just told me that this kid has received more interest already than any athlete they have ever had at their school and the football coaches told him that the schools recruiting him already have said he could be in the Top 3 rated QB's in the country his Senior year. He played BB on the varsity this past year and was a good player and a great kid. He is already 6'5" as a sophmore and a great athlete. I did forget to ask if he was a Buckeye fan or Michigan. Here in Toledo, I would say it is 65% Buckeyes, 35% scUM, so you never know.

  • If I remember correctly, his 2011 stats weren't great (maybe 1300 yards total offense and about a dozen touchdowns?) but MaxPreps named him a sophomore all-American so he must be a tremendous talent. And he was probably only 15 years old. He looks good on his film but then again, to be honest, so does everyone, which is why it's called a highlight tape. He also looks good in scarlet and grey. If we want him, I'm sure Thompson's whispering in his ear.

  • I saw him one game. He was tremendous. And only a soph...he could be a 5*, if he progresses.

  • Thanks everyone. Yeah, he looks like a man among boys in his film. He seems to have a much better developed throwing motion and throwing IQ than Pryor at the high school level (maybe even than Pryor in college) but still runs like a lion. To Iowa's point, though, even Bauserman's college highlight reel looks Brady-like. I've heard rumblings Kizer is a Michigan fan is my biggest concern.

    His family is and he said he likes Michigan but will consider all options.

  • I don't see him fitting in Hoke's system + loud mouth Morris is Brady's boy, so have fun riding the pine. UFM can utilize as many athlete's as possible.
