How will the O-line class finish out?

As much as I wanted Foster as well, it's not going to happen effective his last visit.

Dude we don't really know that.

It's still early and we will have to see how this plays out. To keep repeating this hearsay on this topic is ridiculous.
All we know is what we've both read on this board. No proof, no facts just theory on this at this point.

clapclapI like HawaiiBuck's picks too...I think Pocic is a must and I think 247 just bumped Dorian Johnson up to 5 star status. I'm still not ruling out Hunter Bivin either...crazy man Kelly basically drove Decker from the Golden Domers so I think UFM could flip Bivin as well (I think he was leaning towards OSU early).

I also like North, Quick, Treadwell...but I have a bad feeling that Treadwell is leaning towards scUM. I know Gibson is rated pretty high and he was UFM's first offer once he took the job, but there is just something about his film that I can't get past. He is fast as sh*t, but he just doesn't look fluid to me. Here is hoping for North and Quick

I'm a huge Irish fan, but I'm a worried that you might be right about the Bivin flip. UFM has been on a role lately. Good post AK...plus 1

BK had nothing to do with Decker leaving. He grew up a tOSU fan and followed his recruiter/OL coach to you guys. Bivin ain't going anywhere.

i dont think so either. i have not even heard if he is still being pursued. Hell of a prospect though. He is a true LT.

Good point. I forgot about that kid, but read a story about him the other day on Eleven Warriors.
I think it is Khalel Rodgers??

Any way, you simply can't have too many guys in the trenches. I think he and another OL/DL would be super!

Decker may have grown up a Buckeye fan and I know Bollman didn't offer him, but he was firmly committed to ND and then when he told Kelly he was going to visit OSU Kelly basically had a meltdown and told the kid not to come back.

I'm not saying Bivin is going to flip, but I know he is high on UFM's board and it wouldn't surprise me, especially if ND has a poor season (which isn't out of the realm of possibility given their schedule) and OSU goes undefeated.

I think that O-line and WR are clearly our most pressing needs especially OL. Who do you want and who do you think we'll get?

Look at the Depth Chart. The clear lacking problem still remains at Defensive Secondary. Especially at Safety.
We have Six Juniors and Seniors to replace, plus a Senior Cornerback which means Seven total.
And if Roby decides to come out after this year, that means EIGHT to replace.
So far we have 3 in the Barn. We need to prioritize still on the secondary.
Yes we pulled some in last year, but Urban lost 3 as well in the off season.
It looks as if Adam Griffin might be a pleasant surprise as he is currently playing on the two deep, but he will probably fall in the fall from there.

Our OL 1 has one Senior and we have one commitment to replace him already in Evan , but I believe we turn him into a OG with his current weight. Our best chances are with Posic, and Johnson may be an outside chance with Pitt and PSU ahead of us. The only other OL they would probably accept is Montelus.

WRs 2 Gibson will undoubtedly commit in June, which will only leave room for one more, unless two absolute studs are banging the door down. Such as Foster, Treadwell, Quick, North. And Urban is wanting 12 WRs on this squad.

TEs 1 Heuerman or McNeill first to commit

DLs 3 I think they have a few leaders here as well. Take the first that commits at each of the positions unless someone special comes along.
    SSDE Bosa Daniel
    Leo Neal Bower
    DT Poggi Hurst Hill

LB 1 They are waiting for Love, but I wouldn't. I would offer Kimbrough. But would have to find room for J Smith if he comes in at last minute to join his brother. Have to love how Rod got PT and scored a TD in Spring game. Sorry his brother was not here to see it. I am sure Rod called his brother to tell him about it. I hope he invites him to games. Like Brionte invites Dymonte Thomas.

DBs. Need 2 or 3 more.
    Potential: McKenzie Alexander CB,
Dymonte Thomas SS, Sua Cravens SS,
Vonn Bell FS, Caleb Day FS

    Summary
    Current Commitments 11
WRs 2 Gibson plus first to commit Foster
TEs 1 first to commit Heuerman
    OLs 1 Posic
    SDE 1 Bosa
    LEO 1 Neal
    DT 1 Hurst
    LB 1 Love or Kimbrough
    SS 1 Thomas
    FS 1 Bell
    wildcard J Smith
20-21 is what they say-if possible I don't know how we get that many.

Flipping Decker was a different situation. He was ours to start with. He loved Tressel and OSU before the Tattoo Gate.
But I DON'T understand all these OL kids committing to ND this year to Kelly after they see all these Coaches leave him and his meltdown problems and all the players leaving, unless they just think they can play quick and they loved ND growing up all that much.
If that is the case, then they are not flipping anywhere. Urban can not flip everyone.

We are in the BEST situation as far as scholarship wise on the OL in TEN YEARS!
We have 15 (14 after Carter moved to DL) with only one Senior, and one now in the Barn. Any more is a premium now.
Perhaps next year will bring something more for us. Warriner seems to be bringing these kids into a better Chemistry.
And Mickey is getting them in much better shape. Lets see how many stay after this year.
And even these walk ons are very good.

  • I think were lucky to get 2 more OL in this class, well quality ones.
None even have tOSU listed in their favs, unless we find a diamond in the rough slim in this class
The OL coach really has to have Ohio Ties to be successful at recruiting OL,seems were lacking in that dept right now.

  • It’s easy to think fondly of the dead when, in fact, they weren’t that great when they were alive. And that’s the same that can be said of our OL recruiting under Tressel and Bollman—it wasn’t as great as SOME PEOPLE would like to remember. But since you love my propensity to provide stats so much, let's recap the past 11 years:

2013: 1 OL committed so far—Evan Lisle, who's from Ohio. He and Lovell Peterson are the only 4/5-stars in the state. Peterson hasn’t committed yet. Only one other Ohio OL has committed anywhere so far—Kettering Alter’s Cody Collins to Marshall. Who? Marshall? Really? shrug

2012: 5 OLs, 3 committed AFTER Urban was hired (Dodson, Decker, O’Connor) and 2 from Ohio who had committed to other schools; 1 before Tressel quit (Boren), one between Tressel and Urban (Elflein). Kalis was the other 4/5-star who we didn’t get but that was before Urban was hired.

2011: 4 OLs—Bobek, Underwood, Brown and Carter. 3 of 4 from Ohio, only Bobek more than 3 stars. Carter moved to DL. None of the others are slated to start, maybe won’t even make 2-deep. Great class so far. Aundrey Walker was Ohio’s only 4/5-star…he went to USC.

2010: 1 OL—Norwell, from Ohio. Meanwhile, 5-star Matt James (Notre Dame), and 4-stars Skyler Schofner (Michigan State) and Andrew Donnal (Iowa) all got away. 1 out of 4 ain’t bad…maybe if you’re Shaquille O’Neal shooting free throws.

2009: 4 OLs—Mewhort, Linsley, Marcus Hall, Sam Longo, all from Ohio; Longo’s gone. Best haul from Ohio since 2002….and until 2012.

2008: 3 OLs—Brewster, Shugarts, Adams. Only Adams was from Ohio. 4-stars Zebrie Sanders (Florida State) and Elliot Mealer (Michigan) got away.

2007: 1 OL—Evan Blankenship from PA. Only one 4/5-star in Ohio—Mark Jackson went to Illinois.

2006: 3 OLs—Browning, Miller and Connor Smith. Browning and Smith from Ohio, Miller from PA. 4/5-star Justin Boren originally went to Michigan, Aaron Brown to Virginia Tech and Lee Tilley to Auburn.

2005: 2 OLs—Boone and Cordle, both from Ohio. No other 3/5-stars.

2004: 4 OLs—Mitchum, Rehring, Person and Skinner. Half—Rehring and Person—were from Ohio, Mitchum and Skinner from PA. Rehring was a 3-star. 4-star Brandon Braxton (Oklahoma) went to Oklahoma.

2003: 1 OL—Kirk Barton, from Ohio. No 4/5-stars from Ohio.

2002: 4 OLs—Datish, Downing, Mangold, Sims, all from Ohio. 4-star Kyle Ralph went to UNC.

    Totals:
Tressel/Bollman: 27 signed, 20 from Ohio (74%). Lots of Ohio guys got away and we signed 7 OOS kids (26%).
Urban: 6 (5 signed + 1 committed), 5 from Ohio (83%). Only Kalis got away and that’s not this staff’s fault.

This staff—Coombs, Fickel, Vrabel, Smith, Warinner, Hinton—is primarily from Ohio. They’ll find a way to get it done.

You guys will be lucky to win 7 with that schedule. It doesn't help that your QB situation is completely up in the air.

I think Golson is the obvious choice to everyone not named BK. His job will be a lot hotter if Rees starts week 1. ND is prepared for 7/8 win season, not prepared for backlash if Rees is starting.

  • OSU should get Ethan Pocic, and they stated they are taking 3 OL this year unless attrition occurs.
So Pocic, then be picky with offers to kids like Latham, Rodgers and Johnson amongst a few.
OSU already had 2014 OT Byrne for St. Iggy in the bag, and since UofM and Notre Dame have taken so many, they cannot take that many OL and we can load up in 2014.
One more DL may move to the OL this fall as the elite young speed DL Meyer brought in hits campus in June.

You as fans may be prepared for 7/8 wins, but your team is prepared for 5-6. That's the the reality you should expect. I think Hendrix will be your starter. Golson is a complete unknown so I'm not sure how he would be an 'obvious choice'.
