  • Favorite NFL team: Patriots.
Favorite Pats Player: Mike Vrabel--"I couldn't believe when he came to my school and shook my hand."
Tebow Fan? "Yeah, I'm a Tebow fan."

I thinks Urban is more intense than Kelly. Urban's a steady burn. Kelly's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde--Mr. Cool loses his stool under pressure.

  • Jaylon Smith & his Bishop Luers team will travel to Columbus to take on Bishop Hartley (Jacob Matuska - ND commit) on October 5th, 7:00pm @ Bishop Hartley. Should be a great game. Lots of talent on both teams!

  • This interview gave me renewed hope that OSU still is deep in the hunt for Smith.

  • Seems like a good kid. Good luck wherever he lands. Seems like we arent the favorite here. Would rather him go south than to ND.

He'll be a beast wherever he goes

Jaylon says he wants to make a decision by August. So let's assume he picks OSU...who do you root for in the Luers-Hartley game? The Indiana team with the OSU commit or the Ohio team with the ND recruit?

  • He looks like notre dame all the way. You gotta look at what the players say they are looking for. With J.T Barrett, he said he was looking for a family atmosphere and a coaching staff dedicated to playing for championships. He came to ohio state and the first thing he mentioned was the family atmosphere, and we all know how driven Urban is. Same with Joey Bosa, kid said he wasn't necessarily looking for somewhere that wins the most, but the place he fits in well at. When he announced for the bucks, he said that Ohio State was the place for him.

Look at the things Jaylon is saying. He mentions he wants to be at a place that will set him up for life outside of football. And he also mentions in the interview that he talks with the nd coaches about what his role would be in the defense. I'd be surprised if he went anywhere other than Notre Dame.

  • I think it is a coin flip actually. I am kind of shocked that ND has a slight lead. Will NEVER understand the appeal of the Irish.

I do understand ND's appeal. Great school, great football atmosphere, great tradition. They bring in national recruits
and play on national TV most every week. They get guys to the pros, albeit not at the rate that they used to.

I went to one game in South Bend (against Purdue, who at the time had Drew Brees at QB) and loved the game and
    the experience.

Secondly, these guys have knocked Michigan off their perch more than once early in the season.
For that alone I give them some credit.

Basically, I like ND overall, I do not consider them a rival, and in fact I will root for them against
    most teams.

With all that said, Jaylon should pick the Buckeyes. Awesome tradition, better prospects for playing
for national titles, more guys sent to the pros, incredible facilities, and being king of C-Bus beats
being the prince of South Bend anyday.

Truth be told: my brother is an alum, and yes, I am Catholic.
So your accusation has some merit I guess ;)

I will definitely be rooting for the Hartley Hawks! My son is a Sophomore @ Bishop Hartley :o) I really wanted Matuska to be a Buckeye, but they wanted him to gain 40-50 lbs and play OT. Matuska has always been a ND fan so I'm happy for him. As for Jaylon, if he's a Buckeye by then he can go ahead & make a few plays as long as Hartley wins lol The week before that, Hartley takes on Watterson. Brutal schedule this year. Can't wait

  • I understand the Domer mystique...but they haven't been relevant in any of these recruits' lifetimes...still don't get it.

First, many current 18-year olds remember the Bush Push game against unbeatable USC in South Bend.
That was a great game, and might have made an impression. ND was in two BCS games starting
that year and into the next. Now, as to the outcome of those BCS games, uh, well, uh........so, moving on then...

Second, Many of these kids parents probably have ND ingrained as a powerhouse in CFB. So, being recruited
by them has some pull with Mom and Dad.

Thirdly, ND plays a schedule that gets them noticed at every end of the country. Although they play
a good number of Big Ten schools, they play USC annually, they tend to play teams from the northeast
where they have a huge alumni base, and they will occasionally play an SEC team.

Fourth, people love to hate ND. So when they play against your favorite team, it is a big game no
    matter the record.

Those things get a school noticed. Plus, throw in the inevitable return to glory that is right around
the corner now (kidding), and you have some recruits sold before Brian Kelly can yell his
    first expletive.

Lastly, you only have to convince maybe 15 high-end recruits a year that your school is good. Let's assume
there are 300 high-end recruits in a given year (number debatable, but it's bigger than 100). You don't
have to bat 1.000 to have some good recruits.

Agreed. Sounds like Kelly is selling him hard ND's academics and alumni network.

There may still be some hope. The Vrabel connection could be decisive.

  • Hey coming over in peace, I do not troll, or flame on boards. As an Irish fan who lives in central IN and a Domer fan all my life I am very interested in the recruitment of Jaylon Smith, as are many from many other quality university's. I saw a headline about Smith and was interested. Huge fan of this player, have seen him play live in the state championship game, as our coaching staff goes every year. He is that good, no new info to you all I am sure.

I have to say that while I am hopeful of ND's chances, notice I did not say confident yet, I realize that OSU has a lot to offer. His brother at OSU is a nice draw, but I do believe the environment that Meyer brings to a program is a huge draw to any national recruit. The Bucks are in this to the end, just like my Irish, and I for one want this young man in the Midwest. He is a well spoken, inteligent, very talented young man that will make a huge impact on whatever defense he chooses. I have grown tired of the sec and when a player like this wants to stay in the Midwest to help a great program, you or us, that has me excited that the reign of the sec can be broken.

So good luck to OSU we will all wait hopefully until August I guess.
