Jaylon Smith should be our #1 target

  • Few mins. of video of this kid Jaylon Smith reminds me of Lawrence Taylor, a MUST GET FOR 2013.

  • I would love for him to commit. There are a lot of what if's with his recruitment to me.
    1. His brother Rod is a current RB. Don't know how much playing time he will get. A lot of talent but a few fumbles last year. He was a freshman so give him a mulligan.
    2. Read that they attended different high schools. That means different coaches. Coaches build relationships with college coaches. Just saying!!
    3. Depth at LB is pretty good. If A-L-E-X commits tomorrow it will get even better.

I hope he becomes a Buckeye!! I really do. I'm just not counting on it. I hope he commits and I eat CROW!! Be glad too!!

  • ATLBuckeye, what area of Hot Atlanta do you live in? I lived in McDonough for 23 years. Southside, 30 miles south on I75.

  • Along with Cravens, among the best pure athletes I have seen this year.

Rod played for Fort Wayne Harding, Jaylon plays for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, which is also Deshaun Thomas's alma mater. As a freshman, Jaylon was 6-2/180 and started at DE. Luers beat Harding 14-8. I just watched the highlights on YouTube. Rod had at least two fumbles in that game.

As a Catholic HS in Fort Wayne, which isn't far from South Bend, the "Luers" of playing for ND has to be great.

Notre Dame is shit i wish he would commit to the good guys. This stud will be a buckeye. He just wants to see how long OSU will stay interested. Its a test.

I live in Alpheretta. I hope we snag this kid. I do feel it is a long shot, but in honesty who really knows.

Haha I see what you did there. I definitely agree that playing that close to home and following behind a guy like Te'o is a great opportunity. That being said, knowing who is producing more NFL players and especially more linebackers, it is tOSU. We have 17 in the NFL right now and he could easily be the next one after guys like Shazier and hopefully C. Grant. With Rod not doing so well here, that may not help us, but then again it might. It is a shot in the dark, but maybe he sees this as another opportunity to upstage his brother. Go to the same school and move quickly past him. I mean I don't think Rod's success or lack thereof has anything to do with coaching because that coaching gets guys to the next level and wins here in college. Jaylon would be smart to go here but playing for the hometown school might be too much to pass up.

    Hi dkbuckeyes,
I'm in Milton, horse country, love it here. I see another Alpharetta Buck on this thread. Many Bucks in North Atlanta.

As far as his older brother, he looked good except the fumbling issue, I think he has more potential than others on roster. I must qualify that, I haven't seen the new RBs...

I have to disagree with you on Jaylon, what I can see from film is that he is a smart player, of course athletic, but with common sense. I don't think the boy is an idiot.
He can see the def. line Urb has assembled and with Shazier on other side, a true monster front seven is coming together. In addition, with current LB depth he can probably start at once.
Though we've been beaten down last few years, we send players to the NFL, Bruce did it, Cooper did it, Tress did it, and Urb will too. You can start one year here at the OSU and go 1st round(Will Allen)...
Jaylon, come join the party, biggest party for the next 10 years in college football, and be RICH and FAMOUS in 4 years.

    Linebackers

    Shazier so
    Grant so
    Crowell fr (stud in waiting)
    Roberts fr
    Perry fr
    Williams fr
    Marcus fr (the next freak)
    Perkins fr (no ceiling)

Give me Anzalone & Love today and we restocked real quick. Plus Bogard and Worley are hybrid star guys. I'll take Pocic or Vonn Bell as my number one prospect.

  • i agree, but didnt he show up to an event dress in ND gear??

There are a lot of Buckeye fans in the ATL area. I do feel sorry for you having to travel GA 400. It might be better now. I've been gone since 2003.
Would love for the Buckeyes to get more kids out of GA. Bama is just raiding the state.

    dkbuckeyes

  • I agree ! Jaylon Smith is very impressive. Top of the list at this point. Followed closely by Von Bell. They seem to play the game with violence. I noticed the same thing about Anzalone ,they are players!

  • I think Perry could end up on offense, Perkins potentially as well...I'd really like to have Anzalone but Pocic needs to be target A1A followed by a playmaking receiver like Quick or North.

You guys need OL a lot worse than we do. We have 4 4* so Pocic isn't a big deal. John Montelus is on campus now for the weekend. He would close out our OL class. Smith is our #1 priority, but we're in great shape with RB Ryan Green, DL Issac Rochell, and WR Demarcus Robinson.

What did you think about the Pocic article that came out yesterday? Starting from scratch, doesn't sound good for you guys. I've thought for the last two months he'd be a Buckeye. Not so much now.

shrug What? Not sure I understand this comment. How have we been beaten down? Sure we were last year, our worst record since 1988!!!!

Were you referring to our linebackers? Do the names Hawk, Laurinitis, Carpenter, Rolle, Allen ring any bells?

I agree, we need more OLs and they are our top priority IMHO.
