LOOKOUT CINCY THE MEYER IS NOW THE BOSS

  • OK, you all know and love me as mattincincy, come on haters.................you can't say i didn't call our last 5 recruits, it's ok, I don't hate you.........perhaps we can hang out at the spring game? Anyone interested in that email me on this site, we shall party like rock stars before the game.

A tid bit........so, yes, we have never been able to crack the Cincy shell, for many reasons, a few here: 1) It is a pro football town kids grow up being Bengal fans and do no have a college fav...2) It is a Catholic town and kids that are good go to ND. 3) We don't recruit it hard enough and the 5 stars end up going south.

Guess what. The Meyer went to UC..........he is already reaching out to the coaches down here, I have already confirmed that. @@@@ the posts on here that say Cincy recruits at OSU rarely work out, that is because we get 1 out of 10.

We now have a Cincy pipeline and that is worth talking about................come at mebanana

  • good stuff. i disagree on the part about kids being bengals fans, therefore they don't have a college favorite. but glad to hear Meyer is focusing more on the 'Nati.

  • I was in Coach Meyer's class at UC (82-86+/-we're both 47), and being a Cols native and red-blooded Buckeye; was SHOCKED that Cincinnatians had little interest in or deference to Buckeye football. Got to dislike ND alot there tho...

    Day310141210

  • Yep, I graduated from UC last decade and I was shocked how hard it was to find OSU games on tv. It was my impression that Cincinnatians fancy themselves as part of the South -- Cincinnati's airport is in Kentucky -- and thus align more with the SEC and Notre Dame than with the B1G TEN. Definitely a different culture down there versus Columbus or Cleveland.

  • I'm gonna try to make spring game- if I'm able will def shoot you a message.
    GO BUCKS!

  • Matt not disrespecting Cincinnati but it is not the same as most other Ohio cities. I would have to disagree with your assessment of there ever being a ‘Cincinnati’ pipeline. Ohio State will maybe have better success in Southwest Ohio under Meyer but they will NEVER own this area. Agree that Ohio State has never cracked the Cincy shell but here are a few of my reasons:

    1) Cincinnati does not associate itself with Ohio at all. They take pride in calling themselves the ‘Tri-State’ and do not embrace their own state. So very little to no state coverage.
    2) Local news does not cover Ohio State unless they are winning. Everything HAS to be tied back to this area to make the local news. They have to make a local connection to every story. So very little to no Buckeye coverage.
    3) The city does not embrace college sports overall. They love High School sports, they will still attend there High School games like they still go to school there… even 30 years later. So very little support of their local colleges let alone Ohio State.
    4) I have lived in Columbus and Cincinnati there is no comparison. In most cases Ohio State might as well be an out-of-state school when recruiting the Cincinnati area. Just because Cincinnati is in Ohio it’s not an ‘Ohio’ city per say

  • really? We have not had a prob in Cincy recruiting? Someone last fall posted a detailed example of our issues in Cincy....................there was like 20 kids, and only 3 really worked out for the bucks......whoever posted that, please post it again, it was great info.

we DO NOT have a pipe in Cincy. End of story. My post/idea was if The Meyer (which I think he will) could close the gap on Cincy being a part of the south/being a non Bucks loving city/anywhere but OSU city and make Cincy a priority, we will own the state. We cannot let guys like Bolden, Hicks, Depriest, and Stanford get away.

Is that so hard to understand for the love of God??

    mattincincy

  • Bolden was overrated inmho.. all the guys we got at LB are better except maybe Roberts

  • As someone who grew up in Cincinnati, went to XU games when they played football, went to UC games when the Cats were in the Metro, I honestly don't know that I disagree with what anyone's said here. I think you guys are all singing the same song but from different hymn books. Here's a collated summary of what I've read: Ohio State's never been strong recruiting Cincinnati but hopefully that will change with Urban Meyer. The first part of that is a sad fact; the second is wishful thinking.

OSU has had a reasonable amount of success recruiting The Queen City. Recently we have gotten Devier Posey, Tyler Moeller, Conner Smith, Eugene clifford to name a few. Chichester from Lakota verballed but couldn't make the grades and ended up at Louisville. I don't recall a big group of recruits that we targeted and went after hard, that we did not get. Kyle Rudolph comes to mind, but he is from a strong catholic family and was destined to be a Golden Domer. I am sure there are others but I can't recall anyone that we lost that went on to tear it up at the college level. Great high school football here but all the players that are great in HS don't necessarily develop in college.

I agree with most of this post.

I've been here about 12 years. I am amazed at how many will turn out for high school games in the fall, then not go see UC or Miami on the weekend, then support the Bengals.

My theory is that this area is high school for football, college for basketball--supporting UC, XU, and UK. Because UC isn't very good historically in football, that sense of loyalty is for ND and the flavor of the month. Tress tried to get into the area--several Lakota kids, Posey and a few others, but OSU has been engaged in recruiting battles historically in Dayton, Columbus, and areas north with the rest of the Big 10, having a difficult time getting into the GCL, which is where the best high school football is played in Cincinnati.

When OSU won the national title, there was no local coverage that I can remember until a few days before the game, when the local stations much have realized that they could make some ratings hay by talking about the Buckeyes. I'm trying to remember who on the national title team was from the area

  • Notre Dame has five guys from Cincinnati. They would have had six if Matt James hadn't tragically died. Ohio State will have three this fall when Washington gets there and one of them is a walk-on. Cincinnati has always been a Notre Dame town. In fact, I've always believed UK gets more play from Cincinnati's media than Ohio State does.

Are you "just asking" because you don't know or are you "just asking" to make a point?

If it's the former, the answer is Winton Woods in 2009. Before that, Anderson in 2007 and Colerain 2004.

If it's the latter, the same question could be asked of the public HSs in any city in Ohio, in which case what's your point? In the 40 years since 1972, only 15 state football championships in Ohio's largest classification were won by public HSs and 1/3 of them were won by schools in Cincinnati (Princeton 3, Fairfield and Colerain 1 each).

+1 and there's nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't care if all the players came from Ashtabula as long as they were the best players in Ohio and not just the best players in Ashtabula.

  • I was just wondering cause I'm from up north an have noticed there is always a cinncy team in the race at the end but was under the impression that most if not all were perocial an not public and I know there is some really great football teams down there but thought the powerhouses like moe,x,elder,an princeton were all private/catholic schools. My point is up here we rarely have a public school play for the titles especially div1 an was curious to how often public schools from down there make it that's all.
