My Challenge to Bill Kurelic

  • Scenario #1

    Football player name is “Joe”

He plays for a Top D1 High School here in Ohio and he started varsity as a Sophomore. His team record is 10-0 great gifted athlete, he has been awarded 1st team defense, All county, Honorable mention, Team MVP, 2nd team all district. Rated a 4 star athlete by rivals, and ESPN. D1 colleges are all over this kid. He ended up with 9 offers from the MAC, SEC, Big Ten. Very exceptional Kid.

    Scenario #2

Same football player “Joe” same athletic potential

He plays for a D3 High School here in Ohio and he started Varsity as a Freshman unfortunately his team isn’t doing so well, his team record is 0-10. Its been a losing season for 3 straight years. At his football banquet he was awarded for his performance Team MVP , and 2nd team.
He is getting some attention through the mail from some D1 colleges but the majority is D3 schools.

What’s wrong with the picture? This kid is falling off the radar and the Buckeyes don’t even have a clue he exists, they are being side tracked by other athletic leads and they are missing that needle in the Haystack. Someone better find this kid, the buckeyes have already offered11 scholarships and in no time they will all be used up. The clock is ticking

    Here’s my challenge for you:

Given your expertise and your great potential of finding “Joe” I’ll give you a little clue to help you out along the way.

Here is his real life story:

His team record for 2011 is 1 and 9 ( yes 1 win and 9 losses ) I know its hard for you to look at a team of this caliber, and it may not fit your profile for containing a star athlete like “Joe“.

    History:

2009 He went into his freshman year competing for the MLB position, Having to prove himself to a coach and team that was basically 3 to 4 years older than him.....@ 14 years old he stood his ground and became his own man. Beating out a Sophomore, Junior and Senior for the MLB position.
He turned 15 the day of his first Varsity game on Thursday August 27th 2009.......he started all 10 games and played every quarter that year and had a total of 51 tackles. and it was only the start of a journey in defining a rising star that in the next 2 years will face adversity and struggles playing on a losing team. They finished the season 3-7

2010 January, Started in the weight room with the determination and perseverance of bettering himself, he signed up for the football combines during the off seasons learning combine skills and exceeding his own expectation in competition, taking MVP in the strongest man.
Entering into his Sophomore year of football he ended up being the leading tackler on the team and started all 10 games with a total of 94 tackles @ the same time maintaining a 4.2GPA and was awarded the Scholar Athlete Award. They finished the season 3-7

2011 Having only 6 wins after 2 years things are looking pretty grim. The news media no longer gives attention to a team who once made it to the play off in 2008. They are faced with adversity after losing 4 starting seniors. The younger classman with no varsity experience and some first time kids are forced to step up. The season goes 1-9 “Joe” ended up playing 9 games that year and started FB and MLB he finish the season with 98 tackles.

2012 A season of uncertainty but staying optimistic, coming back from a 3 year deficit your 4 star athlete refuses to give up, even through his time of adversity, his biggest fuel that is keeping him motivated is faith. He was told that “Walking on faith is stronger than the adversity we face every day”

My challenge to you is to find him.

Hint: He lives in Stark County, Ohio

Don’t let this one slip away

  • This happens every year to kids all over the U.S. and its sad but kids get missed. That is why they have the Summer camps, if the kid is good they will find him there no matter how bad the team is. I watched a kid on a losing team with bad grades get recruited by BCS conference schools. Its all about talent, if he stands out they will see him and someone will offer sometimes it's right at the last second. Recruiting isn't perfect that's why you see guys like Garcon of the Redskins come out of D3 schools.

    +1 This^^^^^^^

Recruiting is imperfect. Lots of kids get overlooked. There's also the JC route.

  • How about this 2013 kid: 6-4/205, LB, 4.5 40. He was his district's 2011 defensive POY, named 2011 1st team All-state and his Division's 2011 defensive POY over players who committed to BCS schools. Team was 6-4 as a junior, 2-8 as a soph, 0-10 as a frosh. He also plays WR, basketball and runs track. Offers from a couple MAC schools.

Deon'tae Moore??? Don't know what Kenmore's record has been lately but I did see him play last season. Good athlete.

You are correct, sir! +1 to you

He was named D-II co-defensive POY over Cam, Bam and McCray, among others.
