My Prediction For The Rest Of The 2013 Class

  • With Alex Anzalone and Lewis Neal finally out of the picture, here is my prediction for the remainder of the players to join the class of 2013. You may be surprised by a few of these.
Need 1 of 3 DB’s: Vonn Bell, Vernon Hargreaves III, Christopher Worley
    LB’s: Mike Mitchell
Need 1 of 2 DE’s: Tyquan Lewis, Robert Nkemdiche (Did this one get your attention?) Look for Meyer to go after him hard now that he has demanded that Clemson offers one of his team-mates or it may not be a done deal. However, it is if they offer him.
Need 1 of 4 WR’s: Shelton Gibson, Devon Allen, James Quick, Robert Foster
    RB’s: Derrick Green
    DT’s: Donovan Munger
    OL: Khaliel Rodgers

    RecruitingFreak

  • If I had my picks, these are the final players to close out the class based on likelihood:

    1. Vonn Bell
    2. Mike Mitchell
    3. Tyquan Lewis
    4. Shelton Gibson
    5. Devon Allen
    6. Derrick Green
    7. Donovan Munger
    8. Khaliel Rodgers

Ohio State still has enough room for at least 8 players to make it a total of 22 in this class because of Storm Klein being dismissed from the team opened up another spot. We would have had enough room for 21 before that so now it should be about 22 now.

    RecruitingFreak

  • sorry but the only thing klein's dismissal opens up is a scholarship for a walk-on senior this year because as a senior, his scholarship was already one of the 16 that will be available for next year anyway...in other words, you can't count the same scholarship twice...

we actually have 17 available for next year since we only had 81 guys on scholarship for this year prior to klein being kicked off the team...that was 16 seniors + 1 open scholarship now...but remember, klein's is already accounted for as one of the 16

if j. hall redshirts as some have speculated he will...altho i don't see it...he would take one of the 16, i.e., his own scholarship wouldn't be available to an incoming 2013 recruit because he'd still need it

i think getting 8 more to get to 22 is a stretch but not impossible...it means 5 more guys leaving for one reason or another

  • Gotcha, thanks for letting me know man. I don't want to be putting out false info.

    RecruitingFreak

  • K.Rodgers is USC bound now that he got that offer. And if not there, then Auburn. Unless we can flip D.Johnson or decide on D.Finley....I don't think we take another O-lineman.

What if Hargreaves and Bell both wanna come here? Its a real possibility.. You don't say no to 1 of them do you??

Urban wouldn't recruit Nkemdiche would he? ....knowing now that Nkemdiche is blackmailing whoever wants him....

But wouldn't his Open one this year count as one of our "Punishment 9" (If we don't give it to a walk on)--- so in theory we were accounting for his one this year, but now we would store his for this year to be an extra for next year. IE now we are at 80 this year so we took a hit of "5" of our 9 this year?

So the 16(seniors)+1(for the 1 below 82 we were this year)+1(for going to 80 after klien was dismissed) should still be accurate if I am correct. I was under the impression that it was 9 over 3 years, not necessarily 3 each year though.

I am not trying to ague just curious if that would be correct.

  • I believe that even though it is a total of nine it is better described as 3 for 3 years. Meaning that for the next 3 years we have to be at 82 scholarships to start the season. I wish that we could take the hit this year but i don't think it works that way. otherwise, and im not saying Urban would do this, Urban could dismiss 9 seniors who are not going to play this year( sans bowl) and get back to 85 next year. The NCAA would frown upon this as it would probably be advantageous rather than a penalty.

Unfortunately, teams loose players every off season. the SEC over signs, Tressel used to give any of these scholarships to walk-ons. The NCAA just wants us at 82 for the next three years if we go under that it is on the team, just like every other team in the country to fill the spot with a walk on or another scholarship player

  • I don't think he offers Nkemdiche. In my opinion Rodgers is USC bound and Green isn't going to be a buckeye either. and I'm not sure Vernon Hargreeves is leaving the south.

Thats a hell of a list Freak and I pray all these guys do commit but it sounds like a stretch, either way just my opinion!

it's -3 per year for 3 years...that means a max of 82 on scholarship for 2012, 2013 and 2014...we can go under 82, we just can't be over 82...being 2 under this year (80) cannot be applied to to 2013 or 2014...so we have 2 scholarships we're allowed for this year that are budgeted but will go unused unless urban gives it to a walk-on or, i assume, a transfer or late enrollee. giving it to a senior walk-on means it gets recirculated and becomes available to give to a 2013 freshman next year. it also sends a message to the other walk-ons that if they work hard, there's hope they'll win a scholarship.

Interesting. Would you want Coach Meyer to offer Nkemdiche with the current drama going on with this kid?

Whether you like to admit it his recent comments about decommiting and trying to pull
a "jack move" for his boy are troubling, as well as a cause for concern.

Not sure I would want any recruit trying to flex in public just to get his friends a scholly or offer letter
    to ensure his commitment.

I mean either you are a Clemson Tigre or you aren't.

TOSU really isn't a place for this type of behavior, so although he appears to be a nice talent perhaps he best suited to go somewhere else? shrug

  • I think the magic number for this class is 20, which leaves us 6 more spots.

    LB: Mike Mitchell
    S: Vonn Bell
    OT: Dennis Finley
    WR: Shelton Gibson
    WR: LeVonte Whitfield
    WR: Devon Allen

We are not even halfway through recruiting, so with a successful year on the field, I think some big names could come into the picture. Time will tell, GO BUCK!

  • no i dont want Nkemdiche. Never said i did. Like ive said in an earlier post. Even if we were to offer him, we would have to offer several of his HS teammates and with a limited schollie year thats not possible. Besides i dont want another kid with issues, we dont need another TAT5

  • Interesting twist could be the mess going on at PSU. If I were a top athlete I wouldn't want anything to do with them. Does UFM swoop in and try to convince their top recruits to come on over to the tOSU?

  • IMO there will be few commits until the season is over and these kids get a chance to see what the new OSU looks like under Meyer's staff. That being said...I believe there will be numerous switches made again this year by recruits who verbally committed way to early....see Reuben Foster. If Alabama has kids de-committing, then every school's commits are suspect. IMO the biggest criteria in today's elite athlete's mind is "Where will I play the soonest?" Second is, "Where can I also legitimately compete for the National Championship?" If you can convince a kid that your program will compete for NC's and he sees an opportunity to play early, then you have a great shot at getting them. Lots of folks say these kids will make it to the NFL regardless of when and where they toil. But, we all know that standing on the sidelines or toiling in obscurity for a middle of the pack program is something most of them do not dream about. Looking at OSU's roster... DL, LB, CB, RB, QB will all be tough sells. OL, WR and S will be easier sells. I look for this staff to again try to flip elite OL's and hopefully get Lovelle Peterson at C. Our WR's have been maligned for a lot of reasons but I believe we have several good ones who just need an OC who knows how to use their talents. But you can never have to much speed, so Gibson, Allen or Whitfield would be great additions. Finally Vonn Bell at S is a no-brainer. There are elite players we would find room for....Derrick Green or Mizzell at RB; Mitchell at LB ; Tyquan Lewis at DE, etc. but with the numbers left, they are luxuries not needs.

Because if he makes the grade, he's going to be following his teammate Kyle Dodson to Ohio State. And if not, we have two other options that we could take. Those other two options are Devon Allen or James Quick. I would take either of them.

    Allen, Jacobs, or Whitfield(sp?)

Flip??? Mike McCray would be nice here.
Flip??? Could be Dorian Johnson with all the PSU stuff.
Maybe even a surprise commitment at the last second that we didn't see coming.
