Damn. Nobody was dogging Miller.
So you guys think he made plenty of intelligent decisions on the field last year huh? Alright I get it.
The guy has yet to prove intelligence on the field people. Not saying he's not "booksmart". But I would like to see you guys back your opinions of Miller showing plenty of intelligence on the field last year. I think he's capable, but not proven. Troy (Awesome athlete, not known for his intelligence).....Zwick (yea, ok)....Boeckman (there you have it).......Bauserman (nuff said) ........Miller (potential)
And +1 for the guy who has been on bucknuts for 8 months and his only post is to call me ignorant.

I understand your point of view, but in fairness to Braxton he had no coaching last year. Check this out -- http://ohiostate.247sports.com/Board/121/The-Best-of-Fall-Camp-2012-11245343/1
Check this piece out in particular: "Miller said he never knew about reading defensive fronts until new OC Tom Herman got here"
That's just really bad. Bollman set those kids up to fail with bad coordinating, bad line coaching, and bad play-calling. There wasn't even a qualified QB coach on staff last year. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised this year.

I'm not sure that the coaching staff last year had time to teach 'reading defensive fronts' to a true freshman, especially when he wasn't the starter until mid season. I'd think there was other things to learn first. I saw the offense last year, and how hapless the QB position looked, even late in the season at times. But I don't completely blame the offensive coaches. Switching starters to a freshman mid season has been a tough situation we've had to watch twice in recent years. Could d-line reads be more important in Herman's offensive scheme anyway, at least in the ground game? With an entirely new system to learn this year, B. Miller isn't exactly starting out as a soph with a whole year's experience in the system, so it may be that Herman is a hell of a teacher covering whole areas of strategy that have been overlooked in the past.

I swear. Some of the people on these boards will twist some words up just to start some confrontation. How many times do I have to say I never said Miller wasn't intelligent. Look through the posts. Miller still has yet to prove intelligence on the field though. Does he not? I understand he didn't have much coaching last year but that's the nature of the beast. Your performance is your performance no matter what goes on behind the scenes........ Sorry. I don't see why some are having trouble comprehending this. NOBODY SAID MILLER WAS DUMB PEOPLE SO TRY LOOKING THROUGH THE THREAD FOR SAID STATEMENT INSTEAD OF READING A FRACTION OF THESE POSTS THEN COMMENTING..
THANKS

I agree with you CO... Thin skin people and you weren't even calling thier momma out. These "fans" are the reason other fan bases hate us, cause they think their viewpoint is the only one that matters. They jump on anyone who has a viewpoint that might even meet there's but isn't appropriately conveyed well to them (Miller, etc) Go Bucks! And F the hater bandwagon fans! You remind me of Joe Biden, pretty worthless but have opinions...

I think there are a few things to point out here --
* Why did it take until Game 4 to insert Miller? A: It shouldn't have.
* No matter which QB was in, with the exception of Game 1 against a completely overmatched and hapless Akron squad, our offensive demonstrations against most opponents were pathetic at best. Clearly even 5th year senior Bauserman had no idea what was going on and he'd been in the system for 5 years. That tells me these coaches have no clue what they were doing and clearly weren't coaching kids up. If a kid is STARTING for your squad, no matter how long he's been enrolled, it kinda sorta makes sense to teach him how to figure out where and when to throw the ball based upon defensive alignments and schemes.
* If you consider the offensive "scheme" (using the term loosely considering Bollman is involved), even a veteran QB would have been set up to fail in this offense with these "gameplans". On virtually every first down we run up the gut with far less guys blocking than the other team is bringing. On the vast majority of second downs we ran as well, again with an arithmetic disadvantage. This frequently led to 3rd and long situations. And what did Bollman think was a good idea? Having the receivers run 20+ yard routes with an inexperienced QB, an inadequate and undercoached offensive line which also was dealing with (in many cases) an arithmetic disadvantage in the trenches due to the poor scheming to begin with.
* Consider the QB coach's background. Truly -- go look it up. It's pathetic. My wife is virtually as qualified to be the QB coach at an elite BCS school as Nick Siciliano is / was.
I'm so glad Meyer came in and fired these clowns. It should've been done years ago. Tressel was by no means an offensive genius (far from it -- great read from Chris Brown who did the writeup following the USC disaster in 2009: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Deconstructing-The-grisly-demise-of-Tressel-Ba?urn=ncaaf,189322 -- you will need to cut and paste the whole link as the full URL gets cut off by the hyperlink), but he sure was one of the only coaches at Ohio State who could mentor QBs to a degree and at least (most of the time) come up with a competent offensive game plan even if it was from 30-40 years ago. Tressel was the head coach, offensive coordinator, and QB coach while at Ohio State and it clearly showed in 2011.
Have no fears my man -- while there will undoubtedly be growing pains with an entirely new offense, rest assured that things will be significantly improved this year with massive upgrades across the board on the offensive coaching staff.
Also I noticed you were semi-new -- welcome to the boards.
Edit: Spellcheck

I happen to know for a fact that Braxton Miller is a very intelligent kid. He was my neighbor and I have talked to him and his family on a regular basis. For you to make a comment about a kid that you dont have the privilege to know is ignorant of you. Always two sides to every story.
