Timothy Gardner committed

  • Was everyone aware Timothy Gardner committed? Somehow I missed this. Does this mean Finley is out?

Gardner looks like he is another OL that struggles with weight issues, similar to Carter. Hopefully the staff can keep him in good shape. He's a big body, and I like big bodies on the OL, so I'm excited about the commitment.

Update- i saw the thread on the best damn board, this is old news, apologies.

The big gripe seems to be that he only has 3 stars after his name instead of 4 or 5. Looks pretty good on film to me as long as his weight stays under control, but what do I know.

  • I think we would still take Finley wouldn't we? Assuming we could get him.

  • I think this means Finley is out. There are at least 3 Ohio boys in the 2014 class on the OL that will garner OSU offers. Next year we may not have to leave Ohio but will most likely get some out of state commits on the OL. With the spots left I think we take Lewis, Mitchell, Gibson, Bell and maybe James Quick or Devon Allen, which ever one is willing to jump the band wagon first. Finley will do just fine at MSU.

I wish we could add Robert Foster to that list, but it looks like hes either going to Alabama or Pitt now. :/

  • I am surprised that Meyer is recruiting a kid that is 340 lbs. That's way too heavy, especially for a HS junior. This is too big to be effective against any tyep of speed rusher, he needs to shed 40 lbs before he steps on campus.

  • I read he is 6-5 and weights 315. That's the type of OL Meyers would recruit. Read the kid has great feet and very quick off the snap.

Meyer told him that he needed to lose weight to get an offer. He lost weight and then got an offer. The staff told him he had to get in the 315-320 range. Once he gets onto campus, the staff will really work with him and probably get him to lose some more weight and also put on some muscle. They'll probably want him to play closer to 305-310.

  • Yeah he'll be ok I think once he gets on the Ohio State nutrition plan and into Marotti's weight program he'll be in good shape.

I agree with you completely about Finley and next year's Ohio Offensive Lineman prospects.

Regarding the spots left, the Buckeye staff seems to be in on a lot of high quality prospects for the limited slots remaining. I agree that they should keep all of the prospects informed and then take whoever is wiling to jump onto the National Championship bandwagon or be left at the station as the train leaves.

Even Mitchell, whom I would love to see in this class, has had the opportunity to visit Ohio State but went to Gridiron Kings instead. People have to make their own decisions and be decisive.
