  • I was just reading on Bleacher Report that Bill Greene is saying the Bucks are the favorites to land Bell. I sure hope he knows what he is talking about.I would love it if we added Bell to the class. GO BUCKS.!! Bill Greene is Scouts recruiting guru if that means anything..LOL.

  • I track Greene on Twitter--I don't have a twitter account but anyone who does, which includes most recruitniks these days, can be found on the Internet--and he's saying that based on what people have told him at the UA all-star game, OSU is the favorite. I assume that starts with other players Bell may have spoken to.

Greene also said Marcus Baugh's been seen wearing an OSU backpack.

  • Its sounding good to get Bell. Quick on the other hand is still a crap shoot. There are conflicting reports on where he is leaning, with 11warriors citing 3 sources saying OSU but others claiming sources saying Louisville.

Yes good news on Bell. As far as Quick, the 3 sources and the information are coming straight from San Antonio. The ones that are saying Louisville, aren't even there. They are going off past information. Check out the Louisville scout board, lots of posters are even saying Quick is Buckeye bound.

  • This is going to go on until the ink is dry in February. That being said, I have no idea how we fit Mitchell, Jobnson, Bell, Quick, Gibson and Worley? That's not counting a possible O tackle. But then again Texas A&M has like 35 commits.

19 + your 6 of Mitchell, Johnson, Bell, Quick, Gibson and Worley = 25. I think that's manageable, although it means we'll have to more roster defections.

that class would certainly put tOSU in the elite status - it covers all area's of need with strong talent couple that with the coaching & well...i see another run of domination for the next few years at least.

The way you make room is to assist the transfer of the sloth linemen that The idiot Bollman recruited that will never see the field. These young men may be able to make a lower tier MAC team or D2. When converted TE's are required to fill a starting position, past recruiting may be the issue. Reid did a great job and will probably get an NFL opportunity out of it. The days of recruiting fat snails and criminals are past at OSU.

  • If all those players end up in Columbus it will be a very happy new year indeed. With the recruits that appear to be lining up for 2014 it looks like an entirely new situation my be evolving for the Buckeyes. Classes rated in the top three could become an annual event and higher transfer rates of the guys who don't measure up could become much more common as well. I would say that Meyer's impact on OSU has barely begun.

That is funny sh*t. A good laugh sure helped my New Years hangover.

  • I really hope what Greene and others are saying is correct, that Bell is going OSU's way, but what concerns me is that Saban has his last visit unless UFM can pull Bell in during the Jan 11 visit and he does what Mitchell did and cancel his other visits after that.

Normally I would agree but the issuance of 4-year scholarships may prove to become problematic. I'm not privy to the fine print but it would seem to me that 1-year deals would make it easier to unload unwanted ballast.

You have a point with the 4 year schollies, but most players want to be in the game. I figure they would want to transfer in order to get playing time, rather than sit behind a couple other players hoping for an injury. I assume that a student can drop the scholarship if they want to leave.

Only the 2012 class has the assurance of the 4 year scholarship. Everyone else is still on the 1 year renewable scholarships. At least that is my understanding.

I would assume so, too. I think the risk is with the University, which could prospectively be burdened with dead weight it can't unload. But again, it's a contract and I don't know what the fine print says, i.e., is there an escape clause?

There has to be some protection for the University. But the bottom line would have to be whether or not the player is satisfied with where he's at in the program. How many players have left under Meyer's leadership? He's a great coach, but the expectations are high and demanding. Some players can't deal with that kind of pressure and some can't play at the level he expects from them. I think the amount of "dead weght" is minimal and manageable, and will become less of a problem in the next couple years as Meyer continues to bring in top 5 recruiting classes.

wooaaa...wait a minute - i am reading posts that are eluding to "top 3 & top 5" recruiting classes by Meyer - as if that would be something new for Ohio State...lets not forget that for the past 25 years AT LEAST that has been basically the norm with a few exceptions & without doubt the last 10 years has been. (again there were a few exceptions) but Ohio State has enjoyed top level talent for as long as i can remember (I am 43) & as long as my dad can too...he was best friends with Bo Rein - so if you know who that is - you know how far back I am going.

  • First thing is we must make a GREAT first impresssion with him when he comes here for his official on the 11th. It's here then off to Tennessee and Alabama. We have to pull out all the stops because I really don't give a damn about beating Michigan in the recruiting wars if we can't beat the Alabamas of the world!

While I would not for a minute disparage the talent OSU has had over the years I would say that ranking in the top five annually would be something that they have never done and may not do even with Meyer at the helm.

Also when I stated above that transfers may become more common I was not implying those players would be shown the door. My thinking was the classes full of the very best players are going to include more guys who are going to be unhappy if they don't see significant playing time and would leave on their own for greener pastures. Again that remains to be seen. I don't know what the transfer rate was at UF under Meyer, but I do know that Newton left at least in part for playing time and that in itself says something.

You don't have to add very many transfers to the usual senior graduations and early NFL departures every year to allow for bigger recruiting classes then Buckeye fans may be accustomed to. Look at this season. People have been playing the usual game of trying to estimate how many recruits OSU would sign this year for months, typically coming up with guesses around 19 or 20. Now is seems that OSU may be headed for up to 25 in this class which I don't think any one foresaw only a few weeks ago.

    Trigg,

IB and I were simply discussing the viability of 4 yr schollies versus the traditional 1 yr schalarship. But since you brought it up, I never thought that tOSU traditionally had top five recruiting classes year in and year out. I always looked at it as a bit of a cycle. We had our up years and out down years. Prior to looking at the link provided by Buckybms (he might want to re-think that call sign), I would have guessed somewhere in the top 10 simply because of who the Buckeyes are.

I think Trotwood understood what I was saying in that, players go to tOSU to play, not to sit the bench. When you recruit high quality players, they'll only stay as long as they think they have a shot. When they realize the probabilty of playing is low, they'll naturally think of going somewhere else.
