WHAT IS OUR MOST DEMANDING NEED LEFT IN 2013?

  • As the supply of schollies diminishes what is our greatest area of need left in the 2013 Class? IMO of course we need Pocic (and Johnson would be nice to go along with him) but I am not convinced that our greated demand left is that of "game changing Wide Receivers". I am of the opinion that we will not see too many bombs down field (one or two attempts per game just to keep the secondary loose) but in this offense we will be very dependent upon receivers that can catch the ball at 8-15 yards and take it to the house. As of now it appears we only have one such receiver in the program (D Smith). Therefore one or two WRs in this class with great YAC (Yards After Catch) potential are important to lift us to another level with this offense. What are your thoughts?

  • I concur... OTs, Pocic and Johnson are must gets IMHO.

  • Hey! Only MattinCincy gets to write subject lines in all caps! It's his trademark. Know your role, jabroni!

All verbal tomfoolery aside, field stretching wide receivers with breakaway speed is the biggest need. We need guys that can beat SEC secondaries in coverage. We need playmakers who can house it from anywhere on the field--keep defenses on their toes. Then I'd say good cover safeties (not converted linebackers who get beat in coverage) would be next. We were up by 12 on Wisconsin in the 4th quarter last year. They closed the gap and took the lead in 2 minutes. Thats absolutely pitiful because the rest of our D was playing lights out. Who would've thought big plays would become our Achilles' heal? The O line is my number 3 concern. Depth is needed in the trenches. Just my opinion.

  • I have to say O-line. A pair and a spare would be a perfect cap to a great class. I agree that we certainly need a deep threat, but what good is a great running game without a gap to run through and how effective would a burner at WR be of his QB is running for his life behind the LOS. I know it isn't glamorous but it all starts with the line.

  • Given that we have had alot of injuries at the Safety position (Barnett,Bryant) and that we have lost several scholarship DB's this past year to attrition, I would argue that this is our most pressing position of need.

However, Fragel is a senior and Baldwin looked pathetic in the spring game. Mehwort, Norwell, Decker, Dodson, and possibly M Hall can play tackle. But I would definitely breathe easier if we could add a Pocic or Dorian Johnson to this class with Lisle.

panicbee, the injuries at safety do worry me too.

Totally agree too bad the previous staff didn't look at it that way. The game is won on the defensive and offensive line and so far Urban is winning the battle on the d-line now we need to win the battle on the o-line. I would say wr is the next need.

  • OL- 2 of 3 Pocic, Latham, or Johnson
WR- 2 of 3 Quick, Treadwell or Foster.
Those are top priority of needs. Plus I think we take Rodgers if he wants in, he plays nasty.

  • It's clear OL and WR. Don't forget LB though not as much a need but still those are the guys that can often contribute on special teams with safety tyype guys. In a big way!

    Charske

  • Probably OL and WR in that order.

I would say game breaking wide out. Our O-line depth isnt too bad. Do not forget Billy price is a stud O-lineman and Lisle is a beast. having said that Pocic and Rodgers would be sick!!! Also please please sign Bell:)
