While I will take nothing away from Michigan on their current 16-0 record as they waltz into Columbus, please note that they have defeated, three of the potential "bottom feeders" of the B10 for this season in Northwestern, Iowa, and Nebraska. Playing the Buckeyes in the Schott, where they (the Buckeyes) have something to prove might be another matter.
Hopefully after finding our selves at Purdue, we will account well in this contest. I also might point our that 2 of those victories(scUM) were at home. The Buckeyes may have grown up with their 3 losses, 2 on the road. To read the scUm message board, the Maize and Blue will have "their way" with Craft. Michigan struggled wiht Nebraska at Ann ArbWhore last night, untill the last 5 minutes of that game, a team we blew out by almost 40 points.
I still do not believe we have seen the best out of these Buckeyes that they can play , when all cylinders are in motion. It should be interesting!
I think we best Michigan at home like usual. Is hardaway 100% ? I seen he was hurt last week.
Great win for the Buckeyes but I do not feel good about wasting a 20+ lead at home.
When a team goes up 20 + points aganist a good team...it is very, very difficult to keep the attention of players for the full 40 minutes of a game......the losing team is giving 110% to get back, the winning team plays at about 70% becasue they have the lead....everybody knew the M & B would "make a run"....frotunately the Buckeyes rebounded wiht some good play and FT shooting to hang on to the victory! This game was won strickly on a great Defensive effort by the Buckeyes!
great, great defense in the first half. on offense more of an attempt to score and go to the basket and play more up tempo while building the lead. when they started to slow down and milk the clock michigan began chipping away. in the second half they never regained that offensive movement. too much standing around.
this was a big win but the stagnating offense where only thomas is really looking to shoot continues to be a problem. again, as at the end of the purdue game, craft has the ball too much and the rest of the team is standing around watching. if they ever learn to play up tempo, agressive offensive basketball for the full game (which is very tough to do) they will be a tough team to beat.
still. a win is a win and a win against an undefeated number two ranked michigan team is a big win.
I thought in the second half Michigan just started calming down on offense and we missed some pretty easy buckets like we have a lot this year. I agree that the half court offense isn't great, but we need to learn to play some half court. Not a great second half but we made the plays we needed to make. Some ugly TOs at the end but clutch FT shooting. This team is a work in progress but this was a huge win. We will make a lot of guards uneasy this year.
scUM @ 16-0, #2 in the polls and looking to become #1 with a win over the Bucks in C-bus. Bucks deny! This will be their signature win of the year no matter what happens from here on out. I was giving OSU a 20% chance to win this game. scUM has a very complete team and they have been playing well this year. OSU played this game almost the exact same way as in their 3 losses. Starting strong, fading a little towards half, struggling after the half and collapse in the final 5 minutes. Obviously the final 5 minutes was the difference for this game. GREAT win for the team and Matta!
scUM not getting #1 is quite satisfying. It's been 20 years for them now.
I think Matta slowed it down and tried to take the air out of the ball way, way too early. But I'm very happy with a great victory over an excellent team who is final four caliber. Our guys dug deep to hold off that comeback and I am very proud of the effort.
I would definitely keep the Craft-Scott combo on the floor as much as possible and it was good to see Matta doing this. Keep the pressure up, get turnovers, fast break and transition baskets. These guys are two spark plugs. Even if they are not great outside shooters, they can penetrate and dish. They play very well together, keep the ball moving. Even though neither is a big guy, they box out and rebound well.
This game needs to be a wake-up call to Matta that Craft-Scott guard combo is our identity. If he plays these guys through the 2nd half, there is not going to be a better guard combo in the country come BIG & NCAA tournaments.
Um, I'm not exactly sure about the best ALL AROUND guard combo, but I would say the best DEFENSIVE guard combo in the nation for sure.
I agree that they will not be the best 3-point shooting guard tandem. But other than that, I think they can excel in all other areas.
