MSU or Indiana will win the Big Ten!

  • Trackdad said... (original post)

Gotta win the tough ones on the road to be considered cream of the crop; Buckeyes just aren't doing that and to unranked teams. A # 5 team in the country still shouldn't get beat even a 12 point scorer who happens to drop 50 on you that night. Great teams over come that stuff and win regardless.
Buckeyes are a good team but far from great.

Oh please! Ask your self this, if Aaron Craft went off for 40 points and shot 10 of 12 from 3-point range, what team in the country would beat us? The Celtics? This is not little league or inter mural basketball. The Buckeyes are an excellent team, but far from perfect. Whether they are great or not will be determined on the court. I really don't think they deserve this type of harsh criticism because they have lost a couple of road games by 3 or 4 points.

  • Let's have this conversation after today's game...k ? Bucks lose, sure, they win, and how they win, i.e. is it a tight finish, is it a resounding victory, etc...

Until then it's premature to suggest Indiana will win the Big Ten.

I'm still 100% on Buckeye's winning the Big Ten - definitely need to learn to play on the road.

  • Right now looks like we have atleast solved the upstart Indiana syndrome. Bucks can win this game and will be looking forward to the next Illinois game. Only issue...let more players play, Amir Williams and LaQuinton Ross are no good sitting the pine for 90% of the games.

  • Stupidist Post I read all day!TOSU DOMINATED Today.....STFU!

  • How did that heart and desire work for IU today, they only lost by 17, guess if they had no heart it would have been 30. The big element missing this year is the ability to hit the open 3 consistently, but believe it or not, not many teams have a Diebler that kind of player is just special, this team will compete for a Big Ten Championship, IU won't, and they will compete for a NC, once again IU wont, not saying they are going to win it all, after all only one team can win it and there are some pretty stacked teams outside the Big Ten! Go Bucks

Buckeyes are still 2-3 on the road and beat IU a game in Columbus that they have easily won. Buckeyes still have to beat Michigan State twice and that won't easy. OSU has alot of road games to go. Lenzelle Smith played a great game today and Buford still turns the ball over alot. OSU has to go to Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan, Northwestern and Minnesota. It is a long season and the Buckeyes have to prove to me they can win on the road versus a good team.

First, you are right, they are not perfect. And, Gee thanks Mr Obvious, this is going to be a tough season the rest of the way. Finally, one turnover is always one too many. That being said......

This is a really good team with tremendous potential. They could win it all in March(April) or they could go out in the Sweet Sixteen or anything in between. But I am pretty sure that they don't give a rat's ass about what you think they need to do to prove themselves to you. Go Bucks!!

  • I don't give a rat a$$ what anyone on this board to say about me! Buford committed four turnovers today by a senior guard is way too many in any game. Do you watch the game or are you too busy b.tching at me to even notice that disturbing stat! Any team in the NCAA tournament can win it all that GEE pretty obvious.

Great game by Ohio State versus the Indiana Loosiers. Lack of respect for Lenzelle Smith payed off in big time. Tom Crean never gives any recognition to OSU and that's fantastic. It just fuels OSU fire next time they meet. I guess it helps Ohio State not having your first string starters out the first half like Bloomington. I hate IU and their fans as much as Wisconsin. Buckeyes need to focus on Nebraska this Saturday. There must be no letdowns on the road.

  • Welsh Ryan is not an easy place to play at for any team. Look at past OSU versus NU games in past seasons. Those games were pretty close. Iowa beat a Michigan team after getting hammered by OSU and Michigan State. Iowa is not a bad team but an inconsistent mediocre team. The credit goes to Iowa not folding in the towel. OSU played a great game versus Indiana Hoosiers at the Schott especially in the first half. Giving up 49 points and only scoring 45 points is not acceptable in the second half. OSU won the game and it's great but it's 40 still minutes of play. IU will not be number 2 in the Big Ten standings. I will revise my thinking there DocMike. I think it is obvious that Assembly Hall is the secret of IU's success. This Buckeye team is a long way from being an great team this year. OSU's success is going to be determined by how well they play on the road that is what determines a good team from a great conference team.

Have you even watched them play? They look pretty talented to me. I would take their inside game over ours in a heartbeat. We have Sully, Ravanell, and Williams inside and that is it. None of them can guard anyone and Sully is the only one with any offense. I dont care what we have on the perimeter, basketball is won by controlling the paint on both ends. We dont control the paint unless we are playing North Carolina A&T.

Did you even watch them play against NW? Sherman-Williams controls the paint better than they did.

  • I don't give a rat's ass about all the other asses of rats you other BB posters don't give. THIS IS A TALENTED BUCKEYE TEAM THAT CAN WIN THE WHOLE HOG SAUSAGE IN MARCH! Whether it's Smith, Buford, or Craft steppin up, they will only get better, and take it to the next level!

    GO BUCKS!!!!!

  • I think most will agree that this OSU team is not "GREAT" but they are talented and have loads of potential and will get better.

The B1G is proving to be pretty challenging this year and winning on the road in any conference is tough. I agree with you on Buford's play......it has been wildly inconsistent and he does turn the ball over WAY too much considering he is a senior and should no better with some of the goofy ass passes that he attempts to make.

the only way we make a deep run in the tourney is if Matta can consistently play 8-9 guys some decent minutes......key word "CONSISTENTLY". He seems to flip flop from playing the bench to barely playing the bench. We cannot expect the big 4 (Craft, Sully, Buford, and DT) to play 37+ minutes every game.

I was glad to see this team bounce back with intensity....and they kept at it the whole game especially when Sully admitted to "taking plays off" during the Illinois game.

Whoever wins the league will have at least 4 losses.......minimum.

At this point in the season, we are 15-3... 3 losses... 1 loss was to a decent Top 25 Kansas team without Sullinger and we still had a chance to WIN! The Indiana game was a loss because the men in black and white called the most lopsided game against us that I've ever seen.

let me get this straight.. we lost to indiana at indiana due to the refs calling a lopsided game in which we attempted 4 more free throws? personal fouls ohio state 22 indiana 20. can you explain to me your definition of lopsided?

  • i don't recall any person calling this a great team. they certainly have a lot of potential. i have been under-impressed by the senior buford's play and his time to impress is winding down, but not over. i'll wait and watch. they will go as far as their effort on the defensive side of the ball takes them. it is hard to hide the frustration at times but if they step it up a little each game they can be very good.

    not a VIP here.

If you think that game was officiated evenly for both teams then you don't know basketball... Osu had like three ppl get in foul trouble early. Most of the fouls were bs. IU got in foul trouble late in the second half, but by that time, the damage was already done. Our players had a tough time getting into the flow of the game due to the foul trouble.

Well one team has 2 losses and the other 3. OSU is sitting pretty right now.

  • Soooooo Indiana just lost to Nebraska, their third loss in a row. Still so sure in your jumping to conclusion convictions? Next time, wait a little while before being so irrational.

  • steved23

Ohio State is the best team in the B1G. Period. They have the most talent, the most offensive weapons and when they put their mind to it, they are one of the best defensive teams. When they play well, they blow good teams out of the building.

You need to slow down a little. You're starting to slur your words (while typing).

  • We all get WAY TOO myopic in our Fandom. Even the best NBA teams of all time lost a number of games during the regular season. The Big Ten is legitimately the best conference in the country this year and we have a VERY young team. Young kids have to learn to play hard, consistent basketball every night, and even then no team can get up for every game in a long season. We have a great coach who has taught them to play very unselfishly, rebound better than they have in years, and play some of the best defense in the country when they are really up for a game. They are learning from all of these games, players are progressing (eg Lenzelle Smith, Scott, Thomas, Thompson, and others have improved). They're great kids. They take personal responsibility when they lose (like Sullinger calling himself out for not playing good enough defense against Illinois). They've improved a great deal from the beginning of the season, and they will be better than last year's team in the tournament b/o learning how much better they are when they play lights out defense. And don't kid yourself. We can play as good of defense as any team in the country when we want to. Relax guys. These are the good times, and we have a GREAT team filled with kids we can all be proud to watch.

  • Since Matta has been here, his teams seem to improve as the season goes along. They're very good right now but I'll wait and judge them by how they're playing about a month from now when Thompson has settled into his role and see if Smith can continue to be a legit outside shooting threat.

Whoever said top 5 teams don't lose on the road to unranked teams must not follow college b-ball very close. Just look at what FSU did to Carolina last week. It happned all the time. Even an undefeated Baylor team got rolled by Kansas. Kansas is good but they nobody predicted about a 20 point by them. Missouri has been smakced on the road too.

Let's face facts here! MSU and IU have more desire, mental toughness and heart to win this year than the Buckeyes. Buckeyes haven't been hungry since they beat Duke! Ohio State has the most talent on the basketball court night in and night out in this conference but this year's team doesn't have mental toughness and desire that it takes to win on the road. Beating Iowa is great but it's Iowa. MSU destroyed Iowa. Enough said Iowa is a really bad team! MSU and Izzo and even Crean kids are tougher than Ohio State kids. I can see the desire, hunger and toughness from their Izzo's and Crean's players eyes. I like this Buckeye team but last year was the year to win it all. This current Buckeye team has no leadership and Buford is a decent player but not a Turner type of player who loves it during clutch time. Matt Sylvester performed better in clutch time than Buford ever will in his Buckeye career. This Buckeye team plays like little boys coming out of high school. This Buckeye team will be lucky to get out of the first round. I hate Izzo and Crean but it's Michigan State, Indiana for the one and two spot and Ohio State tied for third place along with Michigan and Illinois in the Big Ten. OSU should win but it takes more than talent than either team to win a conference title

Today is Jan the 20th. Do you want to rethink your statement! The Big Ten is in OSU's hands for them to win it or not. Go Bucks!
