Why is he playing, he's done nothing. Why not ross, craft, thompson, thomas, ravenel, At least he can hit an open 3. Scott can't shoot at all. He had a nice stretch of 3-4 games but he's just not a shooter.
Um because he is a motor in the fast break and great on defense.... I do agree though this wasn't his best game.
Scott plays because his presence on the court makes Craft play alot better.
Craft gets a break from being the sole ball handler and it keeps him fresher throughout the game.
Scott's decisions on the fast break were bad and he is a liability shooting free throws but he has earned Matta's trust and he will improve.
Lenzell Smith was the player that was just awful today.
It's annoying when people who know nothing about basketball spout off athoritatively like they know something. Scott has been a big part of the 7 game win streak including the win at Indiana. He is very disruptive defensively, is a very good passer (assist to turnover ratio about 3/1, and his shot is improving. He does a good job of running the fast break, and brings the ball up so Craft can rest a little. He also got 9 rebounds in one of the last couple games. He has been on the floor in almost all of the runs we've gone on in the second half to put away Minnesota, Michigan State, Indiana, Nebraska, and Michigan state again today. Other than that I guess you could say he doesn't do much!
At this point, I think the best lineup would be Craft, Sam, Deshaun, Ravenel, and rotating Ross and Scott, with Smith and Amir playing sparingly. It's hard to believe that Amir has been here 2 years, and is still that weak. Do they test for roids in BB? Cause that guy could use a few cycles. And watching LS Jr. chuck 3's, is hideous. This entire team has some very questionable shooting forms. Jent has his work cut out for him this summer.
I was talking about this specific game vs MSU. I recognize what he does, it goes without saying which is why I didn't say it. He plays great D, he is quick and does a lot of damage on fastbreaks. My fault for not explaining what I was talking about. He's a guy you have to have on your team, he does the dirty work. I was talking about the last 3-4 minutes when he missed open 3's. I would have liked to see Ross in there as a little offesne/defense subsititution with Scott. With the timeouts this could have been done. That's the point I was getting at in my original post, I didn't explain it well however. Water under the bridge since they pulled it out. On the other hand, Smith did have as bad of a game as I've seen him play. I mean he wasn't just missing his shots but missing them by a mile. Wow! now that was ugly. I suspect he'll come back better vs Wisky.
Agreed. Scott missed a few shots against Mich St and was a little out of control on a couple fast breaks, but he is still a huge positive for this team. I don't know if the coaches track plus and minus scores with different guys in the game, but I would guarantee that Scott is right up at the top for us this season. There is no question this is a much better team with him in the game.
Scott needs to log 25-30 minutes today. Pressuring the ball, guarding the 3-point line and most importantly pushing the tempo of the game are the keys to beating Wisconsin. When they kicked our tails earlier this season, Scott was riding pine for most of the game.
I don't know what's wrong with Smith Jr. He had his worst offensive game yesterday against Mich State. Maybe he is pressing too much. He should try to take one to the rim earlier in the game today against Wisconsin. We need him to get his game together to win today and to make a run in the NCAA's. I think he would be better coming off the bench, but it's probably too late in the season to make this type of adjustment.
