High School Recruit Tony Parker

  • According to reports, Kansas, UCLA, and Duke stand out over any of the other schools he is considering.

I know we had a chance at him.

I don't follow high school hoops or recruting, so this question is for the guys on here who do. How good is he? Can he make an impact next year? And this a big loss if he does not come to OSU with Sully probably on his way to the NBA.

He's very good. Not quite equivalent to how good Sully was in high school, but still very, very good. He could come in and make an immediate impact for Ohio State next year. Similar body structure to Sullinger. Very good inside player. From what I have seen, he does not have the range or shooting touch we saw from Jared as a freshman, but he has a decent stroke. He actually seems to be a better athlete than Jared.

Disappointing if the report is true that Ohio State has fallen off. He's exactly the kind of guy OSU needs for next year if Sullinger leaves.

  • There are reports he favors OSU but his parents want him at Duke. It appears to be a Kansas/UCLA battle. Makes good sense huh? loco

  • Yeah, I'm not sure why any of those schools would be considered over Ohio State.

I realize I am biased as an OSU fan, but let's really think about this. Duke has underachieved the last two seasons, and frankly has not had a big-time post player for several years. It's still Duke, but Parker would have to share the spotlight.

UCLA has been an overall joke the last five years or so. It's a mess there, and Howland is on his way out.

Kansas always favors their bigs, but there are several other recruits already in the class that Parker would have to compete with.

Ohio State, as Matta has shown over his tenure, is able to work with the stars they have, and allow them to showcase themselves. Oden, Conley, Koufos (to a lesser extent), Turner, Sullinger... Matta gives the ball to his stars and lets them become a household name. Parker would come in, replace Sullinger, and immediately become the focal point of the OSU offense. I understand the allure of the "blue blood" programs, but OSU has become an elite program as well, and has produced as good of prospects as any other college team the last 5-6 years.

  • I'm sure he is exactly the kind of "player" OSU needs, but ever since he had the in-home documentary of his family discussion about the strengths/weaknesses of each program, and prolonged his recruiting attention to spring signing period, I've wondered if he was acting like an entitled, too-self-important athlete who is looking for the best deal from his recruiters.

Despite the named school options listed, it would not surprise me if he had a last minute "revelation" and signed with Kentucky.

I don't know the guy and could be completely wrong...but to me there is a little odor on this one. Give me the 1a candidates who really want to be Buckeyes and can't wait to get on campus to contribute to team success.

C'mon, Duke won a NC 3 years ago and is coached by arguably the 2nd best hoops coach of all time. Kansas and UCLA have incredible tradition, KU and Duke have great facilities and incredible fans. OSU just isn't there quite yet. He's also a southern kid, and winters in Ohio don't always appeal to those kids. He could also come in and have a very good chance of starting at any of those schools. While we all assume Sully is gone, he hasn't announced yet and until he does few kids want to come in and ride the pine behind an All-American. The fact Sully came back last year has to make a recruit wonder if he is going to return again this year.

We may miss out on him, but there's not much shame is missing on an OOS kid to Duke, KU or UCLA. If Sully goes pro as anticipated, that could also help our chances. Let's just hope Calipari keeps his dirty paws away.

  • Are we recruiting anygody for 2012_2013? Keeping things quiet if we are. A Final Four team should be able to find some talent that is not signed yet.

I think our offense will be spread out with Thomas being the vocal point probably18-22 per game!!!

I am watching this kid play in an all star game and don't see what the big deal is?? He appears to be lazy in this game. First thing I saw was him turning the ball over spinning into a double team. From then on he is getting his shots blocked and out hustled for rebounds! Am I missing something here?

He played on national television a few times this past winter as well, and as soon as I heard he was entertaining an OSU offer I hoped he turned us down.

He seemed like a big baby, got pushed around in the paint easier than a 270 lb brute would, and missed quite a few shots. People might compare him to Sully, but I see no comparison whatsoever. I think he'd be a kid that wants to come and leave after an underachieving year. IMO, no big loss if we don't get him. Just frees up a scholly for the next year and another monster recruiting class.

  • I think we look pretty good but a bit inexperienced at PF and C. I think Williams, Mc Donald, and Ravenel will hold it down quite nicely they just need some PT. Personally, I never saw parker play but he's a 6'9" C who looks a little soft and we already have a couple 6'8"+ guys on the roster. I don't have huge expectations for next year, but we'll be in the B1G title race and hopefully make a decent showing in the tourney.

    Yeah, I said it.

    shalvoy

  • I don't see how u could think McDonald can "help hold it down". He doesn't look any good and barely played in mop up duty this passed season. Also ravenel (sp?) looks decent at times but is nothing more than an average player. Hopefully Williams improves a lot bc we look weak inside. At least Williams has length, we will see if he can make it useful

  • No surprise here but sure looks like he is a UCLA lock:

  • That link says he is announcing Friday, but just seen where Parker's coach said he will be announcing next Monday. So which is it?

  • So, we have a Columbus kid, wanted to be a Buckeye, was a great college player, but people complained about him not having hops.

I won't be sad to miss out on a similar player who isn't as good as Sully and will play below the rim. I'd rather use that scholarship on someone that can help us for 2-3 years instead of going after Parker.
