It's never too early:

  • Here is a article showing the "pre" pre-season polls for next year. Really doesn't mean squat, but I did notice that 6 B1G teams are in the top 25. That's half of the B1G league. Awesome.

What I also noticed was on the Buckeyes, they show who is leaving and who returns, but on the newcomers - they have none. WTF!!!!!! Is this true.

  • Chu so far we haven't signed anyone that is true but we have 3 offers still out. Hopefully we get at least 1 out of Parker, Jefferson and delle calls I think is his name someone knows correct please.

  • Minnesota ahead of OSU? These clowns just lost what ever credibility they had. Not a given that Thomas will be gone either.

Actually 6 B1G teams in the top 25...Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, OSU. I have a feeling we will be a little better than this projection but it's a shame we weren't able to get the brass ring this year or last year as I think were a few years away from being a legit final 4 team again.

I definitely think Minny is a top 25 team next year, Mbakwe is a great player and Tubby is a good coach, he has had some really tough breaks since he came there. Surprised that we are as low as we are, but its kinda nice to have low expectations for a change. No way KY is #1 next year, the next recruiting class isn't nearly as good and they don't return the talent they returned this year.

Sorry, I meant to put 6 but my finger slipped and hit 5, I corrected it.

  • I hoping Parker was just waiting for Sully to declare for the draft. Amir has to step up big time.

The early prediction list looks to be pretty solid and the BIG should be very competitive again next season. Without getting a Parker or someone at that level, we are probably looking at 3rd place in the BIG, best case scenario. I'm assuming Thomas leaves.

I know nobody wants to hear this, but Matta's lack of using the bench may cost us with recruits. Some of these kids think they are ready for the NBA and do not want to go to a college where they figure to be riding pine. Who would? I'm sure Matta's lack of bench use is used by opposing teams on the recruiting trail.

  • Parker isn't coming sorry, but I think we field a solid team next year. Craft/Scott are going to have to develop as contributors in the offense consistently; not just points but creating easy baskets for others.

  • Is D Thomas going to leave early also??

the one and done kids will come to OSU. Matta has shown he will lay freshman if they are talented and can play from day one.

I know we bitch about the lack of a bench, but Scott and Williams looked very lost at times this year.

Scott never got more than mop up minutes so I don't know how you could draw any fair conclusion on him. I think he could have been the scorer off the bench that this team seemed to desparately need, but we will never know.

I agree Williams looked lost a few times during the season, but pretty much any freshman is going to have some transition. The way the kid showed up pretty strong late in the season after getting very little playing time told me that he should have been used much more. I think you can make a pretty strong argument that he could have been a major contributor had he been given more PT and properly developed.

As far as I'm concerned, Matta used a 5-man rotation this season. Yes, a few other guys got minutes in games, but not enough to consider that they were part of the rotation. In my opinion, to be part of the rotation, you really need to be guaranteed to play around 10 minutes in every game regardless of circumstances. A rotation guy should average at least 15 minutes, as they should be playing around 20 minutes in games where the circumstances require it.

I realize the topic has been beaten to death, but Matta just isn't very good at this part of coaching. He excels in every other way as far as I can tell - and I am by no means suggesting that he be canned - but he just isn't comfortable or very good using the bench. There is no question in my mind that it hurts us, but it doesn't outweigh all the positives that Matta brings. I really like him and think he is a great fit for TOSU, but Matta is going to need to improve in this area of coaching to get his NCAA championship..

I've seen the comparisons to Cooper, but I think a much more appropriate one would be to Tressel. Ethical issues notwithstanding, Tressel excelled in every area of head coaching that we needed except offense. Had Tressel hired a good offensive staff, you could make a solid argument that he probably would have had at least one, if not two NC's in his 10 year run.
