OSU 2012-13 Schedule (updated July 8)

  • Ohio State figures to host Kansas at some point in 2012-13. My guess is they also visit Duke in the ACC-Big Ten dealio in late Nov.

Bob Baptist shared the report that OSU is in the 2012 Hall Of Fame Tip-Off event.

OSU will get two home games against two of these teams: Loyola (Md.), Norfolk State, Albany and Missouri-Kansas City. Those games figure to be sometime around Nov. 5-12.

They will be followed by two games in Connecticut against teams from its major bracket: Seton Hall, Rhode Island and Washington. The semifinals will be Nov. 16 and the winners and losers will play Nov. 18. Those games will be at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn.

If we learn of any more games, we will try and add them here.

If the Big Ten schedule reverses back, the Buckeyes would face everybody home and away except for: Purdue and Penn State (only away) and Minnesota and Iowa (only at home).

Rhode Island vs. OSU Nov. 17 in Connecticut.

  • The tip times for OSU's games in Connecticut are set. OSU plays URI at 5 p.m. on Nov. 17. The OSU game will be at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, whether they win or lose on Saturday.

The URI game is the same day the OSU football team plays at Wisconsin (likely at 3:30 p.m.).

  • The mohican sun games will be a blast for us east coast buckeye fans. Small arena in a great casino !!! What a great way to spend a few days.

  • June 1 update:

The latest is the OSU men will play Marquette on an aircraft carrier in Charleston, S.C., on Nov. 9. The OSU women will also play Notre Dame as part of that event.

OSU also plays at Duke on Nov. 28 as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

This game against Duke joins a likely home game with Kansas. The Buckeyes visited Kansas for the first of two-year home-and-home last December. The Buckeyes lost that game 78-67 and also dropped a 64-62 heartbreaker to the Jayhawks in an NCAA national semifinal game in New Orleans.

OSU will also participate in the two-day Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn. The Buckeyes will play Rhode Island at 5 p.m. on Nov. 17 and will play either Seton Hall or Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 18. As part of that event, OSU also gets home games against Albany (originally Nov. 9, now expected to be Nov. 11) and Missouri-Kansas City (Nov. 23).

These games represent seven of OSU’s expected 13 nonconference games, leaving six unnamed opponents to date.

If the Big Ten schedule reverses back, the Buckeyes would face everybody in the conference home and away except for: Purdue and Penn State (only away) and Minnesota and Iowa (only at home).

So schedule as we know it today:

Nov. 9, vs. Marquette in Charleston, SC
    Nov. 11 Albany
Nov. 17, vs. Rhode Island at Mohegan Sun in Conn., 5 p.m.
Nov. 18, vs. Seton Hall or Washington at Mohegan Sun, 4:30 p.m.
Nov. 23 Missouri-Kansas City (night before OSU-UM football in Cols)
    Nov. 28 at Duke
    TBA Kansas

  • This is a pretty good upcoming schedule for the Buckeyes, it is a nice balance of average to very good teams with some tune up opponents in the mix. Buckeye's defense should keep them in most of their games and they should be able to pull off a lot of wins. I am just looking forward to the development of these freshman and sophomore players from last season.

  • I agree with you. The schedule is shaping up very nicely. Rodney Hood visits this weekend. Hopefully, it goes real well and he decides to be a Buckeye. He would be an excellent practice player for this year's squad, and he could fill the shooter's role for next year, should DT opt for the NBA after this season.

  • Bob Baptist of The Dispatch had an update on scheduling recently here:

    http://buckeyextra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/hoops-and-scoops/2012/08/08-14-12-waiting-on-the-schedule.html

UNC-Asheville was just added for Dec. 15:

    http://www.uncabulldogs.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_LANG=C&&DB_OEM_ID=19200&SPID=11176&SPSID=92359

Keep in mind, this the UNC-Asheville that had top seed Syracuse all but beaten in the first round of the NCAA tournament before they got jobbed on a couple calls and lost 72-65.

Below is the updated sked, based on what Bob has unearthed (he also has games with Long Beach State and Winthrop).

Kansas announces its nonconf schedule with OSU-Kansas national semifinal rematch set for Dec. 22 at The Schott. Will be a rematch from the national semifinal game (as well as reg season game at Kansas):

    http://www2.kusports.com/news/2012/jul/05/michigan-state-ohio-state-highlight-ku-mens-basket/

These games represent 10 of OSU’s expected 13 nonconference games, leaving 3 unnamed opponents to date.

If the Big Ten schedule reverses back, the Buckeyes would face everybody in the conference home and away except for: Purdue and Penn State (only away) and Minnesota and Iowa (only at home). The Big Ten season will begin Mon., Dec. 31.

So schedule as we know it today:

Nov. 9, vs. Marquette in Mount Pleasant, SC (Carrier Classic), 7 p.m.
Nov. 11 Albany (Hall of Fame Tip-Off), TBA
Nov. 17, vs. Rhode Island at Mohegan Sun in Conn. (Hall of Fame Tip-Off), 5 p.m.
Nov. 18, vs. Seton Hall or Washington at Mohegan Sun (Hall of Fame Tip-Off), 4:30 p.m.
Nov. 23 Missouri-Kansas City (night before OSU-UM football in Cols), TBA
    Nov. 28 at Duke (ACC-Big Ten Challenge), 9:30 p.m.
Dec. 8 Long Beach State, TBA
    Dec. 15 UNC-Asheville, noon
    Dec. 18 Winthrop, 7 p.m.
    Dec. 22 Kansas, 4 p.m.

Last year's Kansas regular season game was on ESPN. This year, ESPN has bowl games all day on Dec. 22. That means that game could be on CBS nationally instead. Now that is a real Xmas treat.

  • That is pretty tough schedule, not that many cup cakes. It will be a challenge.

    BlueHenBuckeye

  • - Thad Matta, now in his ninth season as head coach of the Ohio State men’s basketball team, revealed the 2012-13 Ohio State men’s basketball schedule Thursday. Game times and television broadcast information will be released at a later date.

Ohio State has won each of the last three Big Ten regular-season titles along with two of the last three postseason tournament titles. Matta believes the 2012-13 schedule will help his current squad prepare for a run at a fourth-consecutive league crown.

“Our team has been hard at work since our appearance in the Final Four last March,” Matta said. “I like the mix of veteran and underclassmen on our roster. They will be challenged throughout the year as we prepare for Big Ten competition. Our league will be extraordinary once again and our team will be tested both in our non-conference and conference schedule.”

The Buckeyes open the season at the 2012 Carrier Classic in Charleston, S.C., against Marquette Nov. 9. The Ohio State women’s basketball team also will participate in the event against Notre Dame. The games will be played outdoors on the U.S.S. Yorktown.

Also highlighting the non-conference schedule will be a matchup against Kansas Dec. 22 at Value City Arena. The game is a rematch of the 2012 Final Four game against the Jayhawks in New Orleans.

The Buckeyes also will play in the 2012 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off event. Games will be played in Columbus Nov. 11 (Albany), the home opener for the Buckeyes, and Nov. 23 (Missouri-Kansas City). Ohio State will travel to Uncasville, Conn., to face Rhode Island Nov. 17 and either Washington or Seton Hall Nov. 18 in the four-game event.

The Buckeyes, who earned a share of the 2012 Big Ten regular-season title a season ago with a 13-5 league mark, aim for their sixth league crown under Matta’s direction. The conference returned to the lengthier conference schedule in 2008 after playing a 16-game schedule from 1998-2007. With Nebraska joining the league in 2011, the Buckeyes will again take on seven league foes twice while playing Penn State and Purdue once each on the road and taking on Iowa and Minnesota once each at Value City Arena.

Ohio State will play at least 14 games this season vs. 10 teams that played in the 2012 NCAA Tournament with seven of those games taking place away from Columbus. Among is the the Big Ten/ACC Challenge contest at Duke scheduled for a 9:30 p.m. ET tip Nov. 28 on ESPN.

In addition to the 2012 NCAA Tournament foes, the 2012-13 schedule has five games against 2012 National Invitational Tournament participants, including a lone matchup against Minnesota Feb. 20 in Columbus. The Golden Gophers advanced to the NIT title game before falling to Stanford.

The Buckeyes begin Big Ten regular-season competition Jan. 2 against Nebraska at VCA. It will start Ohio State’s 101st year as a member of the Big Ten Conference in men’s basketball. Following the league opener, Ohio State takes to the road for three of the next four games against Illinois, Purdue and Michigan State with a home game vs. Michigan Jan. 13.

Ohio State returns three starters and three of the top five offensive players from a year ago. The Buckeyes finished 31-8 overall and advanced to at least the NCAA “Sweet 16” for the third-consecutive season.

Junior Deshaun Thomas, a Blue Ribbon 2012 preseason First Team All-America selection, leads the returnees with an average of 15.9 ppg and 5.4 rpg.

Classmate Aaron Craft, the defending Big Ten defensive player of the year and a 2012 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America, recorded 98 steals last season while handing out 191 assists.

Another junior, Lenzelle Smith Jr., rounds out the returning starters list. He, like both Thomas and Craft, started all 39 games a season ago.

After five season in Indianapolis, the annual Big Ten tournament will be staged at the United Center in Chicago for the first time since 2007. The 2013 event will open March 14 with the champion crowned March 17. Ohio State has appeared in the title game in each of the last four seasons and six times overall with Matta on the Ohio State sidelines.

  • Any chance in hell of scoring Marquette tickets? I live 2 hours from Charleston and would like to go to the Carrier classic game. Is OSU going to sell any tickets? What would a scalped ticket in S.C. cost for the event? Any help is appreciated
