Trey Burke

  • Why wasn't Trey Burke recruited? The kid has got some serious game, and he's only a freshman. I know he's a point guard, and we already have Craft, but the kid is a much better scorer that Craft.

  • I heard, foolishpride, wiht Craft intrenched as PG and Scott alread in the fold, that Burke wanted to play "right-away". That appeared not to be a senario at OSU, but Michigan came calling and promised him a shot. This had nothing to do wiht shooting or scoring, just PG play. They needed a good PG. I can't blame Scott a whole lot becasue, wiht Matta's herky-jerky use of him, the kid can't really settle into the position.

He was by far rated lower than Scott and tOSU already had Craft. Burke's offer from scUM came very late but after he was committed to PSU for a long time. Coaches are often wrong on their evaluations of players. If coaches new Burke was going to have this much of an impact at scUM, I think he would have had a longer list of offer's. But that's a 'hindsight is 20/20' thing.

Go Bucks. Lick your wounds, get better!

  • If you would have seen him last year in high school when he didn't have Sully and Spoon, you would have been asking yourself how the hell he was going Big Ten. He played terrible in COlumbus during the tournament last year. There is no denying that he is going to be a good one now, but last year in high school, you would have been able to tell why he wasn't one of our recruits

  • I just hate seeing a kid from Columbus go to ttun and burn us up the way he did. I guess it just stings a little more.

  • Sullinger could have let the coaches know how good he was.....Or was he loyal to his buddy Craft? Love what Craft brings but Burke can clearly do more...

I disagree with you on that one. Craft, defensively, is probably a first team All-defensive player. Craft averages 2.3 steals a game compared to just 0.9 for Burke. He averages 4.6 assists per game which is slightly lower than Burke's 4.8. But Craft has a better Assist to TO ratio than Burke. I think PPG, Burk's 14 to Craft's 8, has a lot to do with how each kid is asked to play for their perspective teams. I think Craft could average 12+ if he wanted to and can take it to the hoop with the best of them. Both have a .350 3pt average, Craft has a better shooting percentage overall (.490 to .428). These stats are from ESPN, so if they are wrong, i'm wrong:)

Both are really good players, but I think they are asked to do different things for their teams to really compare them.

    Go Bucks!!

Craft cannot "take it to the hoop with the best of them". If you watch closely most of his takes to the rim are heady plays by Craft when he catches the defense snoozing. A player that can take it to rim with the best of them can do it when the shot clock is winding down and the defender knows your trying to take them. It's not difficult to keep Craft from the rim late in the shot clock. Craft does a number of things well but creating or taking it to the hoop when the clock is winding down is not one of them. The last player we had that could get to the rim at will was Mike Conley. Evan Turner was proficient but he was no Conley. I like Craft as well as the next guy but lets not attribute skills to him that he does not possess. When the clock is winding down this year more times than not the ball ends up in Buford's hands and he is forced to create which is not his strength either but the coaching staff apparently believe he is more capable than Craft.

Ya lets see if you can stop him. Do you realize how quick he is. I would agree that he has a bit tougher time finishing at the rim than Burke though. Craft is still better ( And IMO easily )than Burke though.

I think it's tough to say either one is better at this point. Not only is Burke still a freshman but he has a completely different role. I think Craft is more successful at OSU than he would be anywhere else, and I know Burke is more successful at Michigan than he would be at OSU. Craft is the kind of player that OSU needs at the point (someone who can distribute well and doesn't mind not scoring that much) whereas Burke is the kind of scoring/playmaking pg Michigan needed to replace Morris. But if those two were on different teams I think Burke would still be more productive offensively than Craft. Although Craft is easily a better defender.

Well if at my age I could stop Craft he would have some problems. Not sure if you read all my comments. I like Craft...he's a good player and a pretty good fit for this team. And as others have suggested he is a different type of point guard than Trey Burke. And yes he is quick. But his game is not to take players off the dribble....it's just not a big part of his game. Again, when he gets to the rim more times than not it's early in a possession when he realizes the defense is napping. Which I think is great....he's a heady player. I like Craft. Is he better than Burke? Possibly. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, he is not "easily" better than Burke....they are different types of players. People fell in love with Craft last year. He became a fan favorite because of his all out style and effort. There were even comments last season comparing him to Mike Conley. Please. Conley leads the NBA in steals....Craft leads the B1G. Conley goes up against Rose, Paul, Westbrook, Rondo, Williams, Nash, etc on a nightly basis. Craft's a good college player that gives great effort and does a lot of the little things to help his team that don't show up in the box score. But let's not pretend that he can offensively take over a game at this stage in his career by blowing by people or taking them off the dribble. He has 2 more years to show us that if he has it in his game. Let's just enjoy the type of effort he brings to the court at this stage of his career.
