tOSU vs MSU Sunday 4pm

  • tOSU somewhat in a slump, playing for a share of the title, playing away with something to prove. Matta

MSU ticked about the 15 pt Indy loss, Senior day, playing for outright B10 Title, playing at home. Izzo.

How will this game go? What say you?

  • I was coming on here because I was thinking the same thing. I am curious to see how the players play tonight knowing a win at NW and MSU and they have themselves a share of the B1G Ten title. Does it matter to them and do they have the heart and drive to want it. If they can't get up for NW then my hopes for this team will take a hit. If they go into MSU with a shot at a tie for the title I don't expect them to win. What I want to see is some effort top to bottom that I have not seen since the Duke game. They blew a shot at having it our right themselves by not playing well against WI so I hope they see they have new life and get pumped up and play hard now going forward. Tonight will answer a lot of these questions. Me personally, the only thing that I think might get this team in gear and I know it might sound crazy but I think Thad needs to get a technical called on him. It would be out of character and I think the team needs something "drastic" to shake them out of the coma they are in. There will be a really bad call tonight (as there is every game) and I want to see Thad fight for his players for once and go a little to far and get a technical foul. Maybe just maybe that will get the rest of them fighting for one another as well once they see it from their coach since there isn't a leader on the team.

  • Interesting perspective. I think a technical could be what is needed to "light a fire". I agree it will be pretty difficult to come out of East Lansing with a win, but a hard fought game to the end is what we need to prep for the B10 and NCAA tourney.

Execellent idea. No problem tonight, Bufford will get his mormal 20+ against 2nd tier team and victory should come without much trouble. Sunday, without the "fire" and WB playing his normal disapearing act against good teams, something needs to spark this team into playing up to its capability and I agree, a TF is just what they need the first time Sully gets mugged.. They are better than MSU and need to step up and show it. Thad changing defenses just for a different look might be of some help as well. Go Bucks!

  • So, after last nights EXCITING finish (heart still racing), the game Sunday takes on new meaning.

If Sully, Thomas, and Craft can play like they did last night (and take care of the ball better), and Bufford step-up to a 16 pt game, I think we have a chance of pulling this out.

We'll see which team shows up. Anyone know the spread?

    DaytonBuckeye

  • Why do we cast The Spartans as Supermen? If Green has a bad night, they are in trouble. We need to make him have a bad night. Aganist Indiana(loss) they looked very vinciable! For once if all 5 of our starters "show-up", take their thumbs out of their back-sides, and play the kind of ball they are capable of, this game would not even be close. When only 2-3 of them show up, we are a normal Big10 team, and very beatable!

  • Craft, Sullinger, Smith and Thomas are going to need big numbers in order to pull off the upset. Craft needs to become more assertive and attack the rim. Buckeyes need to show a sense of urgency that they haven't shown all year. Buford will not show up. He takes too many bad shots in big games. I expect something to happen where the shots will fall for this kid during his OSU career. Hopefully, it is this game but I doubt it. Passing, moving the ball, and communicating on offense and defense are key. Pretty much everything said by the Buckeye Blitz crew last week is what OSU must do to beat MSU. Sullinger cannot whine about the calls and he is going to have to go strong to the bucket and take the hit to get his points. Sully needs mental toughness versus MSU and the other teamsBig Ten referees have sucked for decades. Nothing has changed.
MSU 65 OSU 60! I hope I am wrong. No Diebler and Lighty means defeat for OSU. These are the only guys who are able to spread MSU out over the court.

  • There's no reason in the world we can't win this game. After 3 consecutive weekend losses, we're due for a better offensive showing. I see keys to the game are as follows:

    - Can Scott play enough quality minutes to allow Craft to play shooting guard, get a rest on the bench to conserve energy for the offensive end. Scott needs 15 - 20 minutes.

    - Sullinger needs to pass out of the double team to Buford, Thomas and Craft who need to knock down some threes. Look for Sullinger's assist numbers. Between these three guys, we need to get near 10 three-pointers.

    - Ravenel and Thompson need to play lights out defense and crash the boards like hell when they are in the game and cannot be intimidated by Mich State's physical play. Each need to get at least 5 rebounds. Sullinger and Thomas need to compete on the boards and we are going to need to at least be close to Mich. St. in total rebounds for the game.

    - Lenzelle Smith needs to chip in 10 points, our total for the game needs to be around 70.

If we can meet these goals, I look for a Buckeye victory, 71-67.

A lot of IFs, but we have seen them do this earlier in the season against Duke and FL, so it is possible. Not sure we can do it on the road, but hoping for the upset.

Should be an epic battle for the B10 crown!

    Go Bucs!

    DaytonBuckeye

  • I'm hoping for a win, but no expecting one.

Hoping against hope here, but maybe Bufford shows up against a good team for once.

Need much more than WB showing up, I just don't see a win for the Bucks. Sadly, MSU by about 12.

  • I'm telling you, they need to ride Thomas.

    VillBuckeye

  • How can so many mentally soft pu$$ies be accumulated by one coach. This is the most mentally weak team I've seen at OSU in years.

Difference is those games were played when Sullinger was having fun and playing hard. When is the last time he smiled? Now he just keeps making bad decisions with the ball and whining about every call.

Already 4 or 5 bone head moves by us in the first few minutes of this game. The environment is electric, and Green has fire in his eyes. We will need to be almost perfect.

I agree. I posted on here before, too many nice guys. We play soft and look lost today.

Our game plan is pass to Sully and cross your fingers or pass it around until someone can take a contested jumper.

    Ridiculous! !!

there are fans out their that told us 3 weeks ago not to panic....where are all those fans today. This is not a good basketball team and they have not played a decent game in the 2012 calendar year. there's so many problems with this team it would take a manifesto to identify them all. this team will lose their first game in the big ten tourney, draw a 4 seed and be one and done in the tourney. an absolute wasted year by this basketball team and Matta needs to do some soul searching in the off season regarding his entire philosophy.

agreed......I said the same and I was ridiculed for it.

The only thing I got wrong was this team losing to NW this week. I thought we would, but he barely won.

It still mazes me that a college athlete on scholarship can be as fat and as out of shaper as Sully.

    odan rot

  • Well.....epic. Bucs showed some heart today!

On to the B10 Championship and the NCAA

    DaytonBuckeye

  • Good...hard fought victory today! Now they need to refocus and play like they did against Duke....AND KEEP THAT GOING!
Biggest problem I see is Matta using Sully so much on the front line. Ravenel showed today he is ready to step up and take over where Dallas Lauderdale was last year. Ravenel can play the 5-spot and allow Sully to play his natural 4-spot position.

  • "In your eye" to all of you who have been trashing Buford and saying this team has no heart.

    JAG24

  • jag24, and what were you saying in the first half??? they have not played as well as they did in the second half since the duke game and that was a long time ago. buford played a poor first half then was all world in the second half. credit to him . that game winning shot was an impossibly difficult shot and he drained it. i hope this will lead to some more consistent shooting going forward. thomas also turned it around in the second half. ravenel played great while he was in there. i would have left him in. sully played better than he has in a long time but stlii struggles on defense. craft made a couple of real clutch shots but has got to stop missing free throws. the team played as well or better than they did agaisnt duke. they played the way all those who have been critical thought they should have played all year. i guess you were one who thought they wouldn't have a good season this year?????
this was a big, big win and showed a lot of heart in a very tough environment. HOWEVER, if they don't build on this and play up to this level the rest of the way, this win will lose a lot of its luster.
for today, great win, great comeback. it's always nice to be champs or even co-champs of a very tough conference. now LET'S KEEP IT GOING !!!!!
