That is exactly the point, Kentucky just lost to Vanderbilt and you do not see their fans screaming for Calipari's head. Look, getting to the national championship in basketball is tough and there are alot of good teams like Murray State that pose threats that they do not pose in football. Also, I have played 5 on 5 basketball in a rec game, taken some good shots, only to see the ball go in and out of the rim. How many of Sullingers shots did we see fall off the front of the rim, back of the rim, side of the rim and everywhere in between. But, I do think that we need the smaller lineup of Williams, Ross, Sibert, Craft, and Thompson.

I'm confused... Um I didn't catch the game but I looked it up and it seems as if Kentucky didn't just lose to Vanderbilt.

Next season will be a whole different dynamic. I have no worries with Buford or Sully moving on. The players everyone is clamoring for to get minutes will have their opportunity to do so. It's the nature of the beast. Losing Diebds, Lighty and Dallas didn't stop us from being a top 10 team all season.

We are top 10 because our best player is back along with an experienced wing player. That is not coming back next year. The problem with the bench players is due to coaching they have almost no experience. Thomas and Craft had much more experience than any guy currently sitting on the bench. Worried should be what all of Buckeye bball fans need to be

I just looked at the box score from the Louisville/Syracuse game. Each team played 8 guys mainly, then two guys sparingly.
Kansas/Kansas St. Kansas had 6 with over 18 minutes, 3 others with under 6. K-State had 7 guys mainly, 3 others sparingly.
Kentucky/Florida. Kentucky played 7 guys with more than 11 minutes. One with 4. Florida played 8 guys.
tOSU/MSU. OSU played 7 guys mainly. MSU played 8 guys with two sparingly.

My Point? Every team listed here has a main rotation of 6-8 guys. Matta is no different. I give very little credit to experience. UK is winning with a roster full of freshman and sophomores. Sophmores who didn't play much last year. Does Lenzelle Smith have a lot of experience from last year? Nope and he's doing just fine. Ravenel is playing up to his ability and is a solid contributer coming off a red-shirt year and a couple years at BC where he didn't play.

Development and getting better happens every single day weather you play in the games or not.

Are you kidding me???? He is like 145-10 at home since he became coach. What do you want? He has to be one of the top 10 college coaches in America today. You just prove to me that you would bitch, if you were hung with a new rope......sad....

Thanks for cheering me up. Your post is so bad I couldn't help but laugh myself silly. Your post isn't vulgar, and you don't appear to be threatening anyone physically. It just seems like you should be banned for being really dumb.

  • Matta's recruiting is actually overrated IMO. Don't get me wrong, he is a good recruiter, best in the B1G, but OSU is clearly behind in talent when compared to the KY, Kansas, UNC, Dukes. Kansas looked much more athletic than us, and we don't even come close to KY. He has had some highly ranked recruiting classes, but that is partly because he takes 5 or 6 guys in a single class, which bumps their rating. When you look at average stars per recruit, he is still very good, but nowhere near the top. I am somewhat worried too with all of the coaching and recruiting talent in the neighboring states. Look how many players in the Final Four come from B1G country. Calipari is going to be hard to beat for a lot of Midwest guys, Crean is up and coming, Groce will be no slouch at Illinois, Michigan is doing better, Izzo is still solid, etc.

Which brings me to, I think Matta is underrated as a coach. He has won with 5 star guys, but also with a bunch of 3 and 4 star guys. I think when you look at how some OSU guys have done in the NBA, maybe the talent level isn't as high as many OSU fans would like to think. This team has 1-3 guys that will be drafted, but do you see anyone that will be a star in the NBA? I don't. Hell, Kentucky could have five guys go in the first round.

I will say that we have one of the best combo's of coach and recruiter in Thad Matta. It takes a lot of luck to win a National Championship in basketball. That may be why schools with great basketball traditions have a lot of Final Fours to there credit. Case in point is North Carolina they have 18 final fours but only 5 National Championships with 3 of them coming in the last 20 years. Duke has 15 final fours with 4 national championships. Kansas has 14 final fours and only 3 National Championships.

I am happy we got to the final four. I want them to win it all but it does not always work out that way. You have to hope for the best next season.

I completely agree. Matta has done an incredible job recruiting for OSU, but lets face it, until we get 3 or 4 more NCs, it will be an uphill battle to outrecruit UNC, Duke, KY, Kansas, etc. With all of Matta's success, the only impact recruit he has landed from outside of B1G country would be Othello Hunter, who was a so-so JUCO guy when he was recruited. I still have hope for Ross, but basically Matta has just done really well in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. I think his competition has gotten a lot tougher lately as well, as Indiana is back, Michigan is back somewhat, Calipari is in the region, Groce is going to be recruiting the hell out of Chicago, etc. When Matta started his only real local competition was Izzo for the top guys. Frankly, if he can seal up Ohio and get about one guy on average OOS, we will do pretty well as Ohio is a very good hoops state.
