Apples profits...are people upset with....

  • The problem is our free trade policies. Once one company goes overseas to take advantage of cheap labor the rest of the industry has to follow or the shareholder's will go crazy because the company didn't go after every penny of profit it could. There was just a story on the news the other day about how the shoe industry left and went to Asia. The profits of those companies went way up but they didn't lower the price of their shoes at all. Free trade puts our workers in direct competition with the cheapest labor in the world. China pegs its currency at a fraction of ours to specifically make their labor cheap so they can export more. It is very difficult to compete with that.

I wonder how many liberals here own an Apple product? Afterall they make obscene profits and treat their Chinese workers terribly.

What's your point? Something foolish you can't prove I'm sure.

But don't worry they aren not evil because they aren't an Oil Company or an Insurance Company.

Why do people like you hate Oil and Insurance Companies so much?

Though often asked, God does not take sides in politics or college football.

over $39 billion in profits last quarter......

Wrong once again. Apple would love your more than tripling their profits.

    Why would people be upset?

I'm writing this on a MacBook Pro. I have never said that any profits were obscene though some of the business practices which individuals and companies have used to generate them have been obscene.

From what I have read, conditions were found not to be as bad reported in the NY Times. In addition Apple has corrected the problems which were found.

It was actually toungue in cheek sarcasm pointed at people who villianize Oil Co's and Insurance CO's (during the whole Health-care thing) that make profits.

I have no problem with Apple making a lot of profit as well as other companies who make a large profit.

Did they move labor overseas to squeeze every nickle out of the American consumer? or did they move labor overseas to sell the product at the price point demanded by the American consumer?

are unions part of the blame? of course they are, artificiall high wages and beni's forces a business decision. is govt to blame? of course it is, tax policies and regualtion policies force a business decsion. are teh amercian consumers to blame? of course they are we demand the 300 dollar 80 inch hi fi, diamond crystal TV, if it was sold at 1500 and made in America, no one will buy it because it exeeded our price point, so we forced a business decision. Teh TV market is the classic example of this, in teh 70's and 80's over 90% of all tvs sold were built here, than the tech boom hit and the American consumer wanted the new tech for the same price of the old tech, it forced a business decsion and now less than 10% of TV's are made in the US.

the uninformed that only blame big business and not spread the blame to unions, Govt and consumers are just that uninformed.

    Bingo!

As for government, liberal officials at the state and federal level continue to believe outcomes of their decisions are made in a vacuum, without taking into account that:

Higher corporate taxes push jobs overseas.
Higher tax rates, both personal and business, result in less tax revenue.
Union controlled states push people and jobs to right-to-work states.

Great thread, as it reveals the hypocrisy of the left, and the belief that all excessive corporate profits aren't created equal, and the only evil companies are the ones who prey on unsuspecting citizens in select industries. Total BS in a free market.

  • All know is I wouldn't know how to function in this world if I didn't have my Ipod Classic and it's 90GB (160 capacity) of music. Don't even get me started on my daughter and her Ipod touch.
