Fewest Number of Americans Working Since 1983

  • Obama and his Socialist anti-business programs has finally found the way to drive down the % people looking for jobs and having employment.Simply kill incentives to employ people....wait for people to give up...and the % continuing to look plummets.Read below about the stunningly low numbers continuing to actually have a job.
    -------------
Fewer Americans working now than in decades:

    14 April, 2011 09:29:00

ABJ – April 14 – The percentage of the United States population that is employed hit its lowest level in decades last year, USA Today is reporting.

Just 45.4 percent of Americans were working in 2010, the lowest number since 1983 when women were less integrated in the workforce than today. The total figure of working Americans was down from the all-time high of 49.3 percent in 2000, according to the report, released today.

Only 66.8 percent of men had jobs last year – the lowest rate on record – while 56 percent of women worked.

Crunching Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers, USA Today found that there are now more non-working adults than children in the United States. In 2000, there were approximately the same number of non-working adults as there were children, but in the decade since the U.S. has added 27 million non-working adults and just 3 million children.

By state, Mississippi has the smallest working population at just 36.7 percent, while North Dakota leads the nation with 55.8 percent.

Do you have any common sense??? You post all this crap, like Obama in two years has caused this entire mess.

Do you understand that Corporations are sitting on all Capital, the most in recent history. Then we allow Companies to send jobs overseas and allowing them to bring back their products, profits tax free in many cases.

At least Obama is getting the blame after 2 years. Kasich and Walker are getting blamed after less than 120 days!

There is a huge difference, they came in and took on the middle class. That is the feeling, while you may not agree with that point..... that is the reason for the outcry.

    Bama, are you serious?

"Obama and his Socialist anti-business programs has finally found the way to ... Fewer Americans working now than in decades."

You do understand that the article is discussing the percentage of all living Americans from birth on up who are in the workforce, right?

So Obama did the following things? These are what have caused us to have fewer Americans working now than in decades:

    1. Percentage of population who are retirees is the highest in history.
    2. The number of young adults staying in school and attending post HS options is at a record high causing the 16 to 24 age group to BE THE ONLY AGE GROUP TO DROP IN THE PERCENTAGE OF THOSE WHO WORK IN THAT AGE GROUP (see the chart below).
    3. 37% of Americans are either under 18 or over 65, the highest percentage of those numbers in our history.
    4. There is more but you get the idea.

Your misguided attempt at explaining why there are of fewer Americans working is just partisan claptrap.

Yes unemployment is too high and yes some have stop looking but those numbers are not near as large as the ones cited above. For example, there are about 13.5 million unemployed for 8.8% of the workforce. That is about 4.5% of the total population which is what the article is talking about. Add another 13.5 million who have given up and you still have the percentage of all Americans working at 91%. Compare that 9% to the almost 25% of the population under 18 or if you prefer numbers: 27 million unemployed/given up (high estimate on purpose) to 77 million under 18.

So it is those numbers that I cited which has caused this record high number.

    So you claiming

The facts are the facts .Americans are loosing their homes(could that be because they have lost their jobs ?)....foreclosures continue to be close to record levels....unemployment is unacceptably high after TRILLIONS were spent that did nothing but increase our debt....inflation is surging(look for a full story on this posted here shortly...rising gasoline prices are sucking discretionary spending out of the economy. By any measure Obama has been a disaster..and it's getting worse.

Most union workers are middle class though. Unions are a big part of the reason that there is a middle class. I know you don't like unions but your continual failure to recognize their importance in the existence of a middle class is disgusting.

  • Unions screwed up when they decided their focus was to protect poor workers! I have been a member of a union and when all they want to talk about is how to get people their job back who are fired for poor attendance or not doing their job, it makes them a JOKE!

Back when unions were first organized they had a good purpose. Now all they do is cost money, both employees and consumers!

Yes, I did. My statement stands. Weakening unions is the pursuit of someone who wants workers to have fewer rights. It's an attack on the middle class because the middle class are workers.

It isn't an attack on the middle class. That is a typical Union tactic to try to drag the "middle class" into their arguments. Not everyone is in a Union. Yes, we all agree that it was a blatant attack on the Unions. Not everyone in the "middle class" is in a Union so it wasn't an attack on the "middle class".

Hell, if you are going to include everyone who is in the middle class as being attacked, why stop there? Why not include even more groups of people that aren't in Unions? Was it also an attack on minorities, illegal immigrants, disabled, women, students, etc....

Well, Republicans have a lot of other ideas that attack all those other groups so I didn't feel the need to include them in this issue.

You constantly deny facts and somehow think your opinions (or those of the con-media you post) are as good as facts. They are not.

Facts are not spin. When 37% are under 18 or over 65, highest number for those groups in history that is why the percentage of all Americans not working is so low.

Way to change the subject. Obama has been so successful in dealing with all these issues that if he was a repub you would be giddy in your praise for him. He would replace Reagan in as number one in the con hit parade (traditional cons, not the tea baggers)

There are all types of real numbers out there that show that the stimulus, the bailouts (W), saving GM, etc have been very successful, despite the efforts of repubs to block almost everything Obama wanted to try.

How is the ridiculous rise in gas prices his fault?

The only thing "ridiculous" is referring to Obama as "very successful"... I'm pretty sure you're not going to find many "giddy" people out there Democrat or otherwise when it comes to evaluating his performance and policies. This guy is the second coming of Jimmy Carter and we all know how "successful" the first go-around was... See electorate response in 2010 mid-terms.
