HERE WE GO AGAIN

  • Another attack on the individual effort by small business owners. Can you believe these quotes from today?

"There are a lot of people in government who help us and allow us to have an economy that works and allow entrepenuers and business leaders of various kinds to start businesses and create jobs. We all recognize that. That's an important thing."

"I know that you recognize that a lot of people help you in a business. Perhaps the banks, the investors. There's no question your mom and dad. Your school teachers. The people that provide roads, the fire, and the police. A lot of people help."

So cons are you all upset and outraged again?

These quotes were from one Williard Mitt Romney. And no they are not from the archives, he actually said them today, Wed JUL 18, 2012.

    Unfrigginbelievable!

Good one Tim! I am still laughing! You are a great debater. You know exactly how to take out of context phrases to get morons like McCague to lap it up. Obama has proven over his last 3.5 years to be the most antibusiness President we have ever had in this nations history. Get used to saying "President Romney" because it is coming.

There's a difference between saying "someone helped me" and "you didn't build your business", a HUGE difference. Once again, Tim just carries those water buckets for Barry and the gang, no matter how heavy they get. Getting tired yet, Timmy? No? Ok, just keep carrying them then.

Reminds me of your "Wake up TimMcM" thread. How'd your prediction in that one work out?

Besides empty rhetoric and partisan hyperbole, give the reasons from the last 3.5 years why he has been the most antibusiness President ever. My son is a professional and a small business owner. So far Obama's programs has saved him over $11K in the last 3.5 years.

Since you never write/say President Obama and many cons on here call him made-up names like Obummer (from our 11 year old poster), why would I call him President Romney even if he wins?

  • Did you actually watch the rest of the video, or did you just take the out of context quote from the website without hearing the rest of Romney's message?

Part of what Obama said was correct, and Romney is reinforcing that. That is that the government should be structured in a way such to encourage and grow small businesses. Nobody is arguing the fact that entrepreneurs need help and support to build their business, and these resources should be made available.

That is where the similarities end. What was so enraging about what Obama said is the idea that business owners were not responsible for their own success. These things are certainly helpful to business owners and make things easier for them, but to say they would not have succeeded without them is offensive.

There is a subtle, but BIG difference between receiving support or help from something and being completely reliant on it.

Sorry that your reading and listening comprehension skills are so poor. He absolutely did not say "you didn't build your business" he said "you didn't do that" with the "do that" referring to creating the system in which businesses could thrive, building bridges and roads, and from the sentence that comes next the internet.

This is not carrying water, it is being able to understand the spoken and written word. Any objective person with sixth grade listening/reading comprehension skills would be able to understand it exactly as Obama meant it.

For the 245th time Obama did not say that. I have broken it down over and over but that you anti-Obamaites can not overcome your own partisanship and understand the meaning of the words, which the average JH student would have no problem doing, is evident.

Obama did say that business owners were successful because of their own initiative AND the help and support of others, including the government for some things.

If it's so obvious, why didn't you make that point in the original thread? Funny how you only come to this conclusion after Obama's team put out the damage control statement saying this exact same thing today?

As I just mentioned above, you only started breaking it over now that the Obama team gave you the talking points to come back with. If I remember correctly you never once argued that Obama was saying they didn't build the roads, not that they didn't build the business until Obama's team put out a damage control statement to clarify this apparently obvious statement. And if that's what he actually meant, he could have hired a 6th grader as a speech writer and it would have been more clear than Obama trying to speak without his teleprompter.

And for the record, I'm not anti-Obama. I actually like some of the stuff he's done like repealing DADT, supporting gay marriage, and I like his stance on immigration. I do however think he is clueless on how business works. It's called thinking for yourself. Try it sometime, it's great.

So in my insomnia, I've been reading many articles on this subject on both sides of the story.

For something that is SO obvious, then why can't I find a single article that explained Obama meant that business owners didn't build the roads/internet/etc put out before Obama's "explanation"? EVERYONE thought that he was talking about building their actual businesses - yourself included.

    LOL

I argued the exact same point prior to Obama's team coming out with it. It is not a coincident that they are the same - it is because they are true. I watched Obama give the speech and knew exactly what he was saying when he was actually saying it. If anyone took a cue from someone it was you. Because you are just repeating the con/GOP talking points on the speech.

The other evidence that you buy into the most of the GOP mythology is you are repeating their mantra "he is clueless on how business works." The only problem is that in our history there have only been a few really successful businessmen even elected and none have been very successful as president. Which of our presidents in the last 100 years were really successful businessmen before becoming president and how successful were they as presidents? (sounds like a new thread to me)

Obama's comments obviously have scared the hell out of TimMcM and his fellow liberals here and elsewhere... Of course the reason for this isn't that they don't agree with him, but rather that he actually expressed what he truly believes which they know is BAD news for election purposes... After all Obama is supposed to be a "moderate" (heavy sarcasm).

(As I said to another leftist lemming in a different thread) Wrong... It is people such as yourself who are trying to perform damage control after Obama went off message without a teleprompter and exposed his true views which do NOT resonate with the majority of the American public. Please stop insulting people by suggesting they aren't intelligent enough to understand what the President said and how he meant it... His talk of "there are a whole bunch of hard working people out there" and "there are a lot of smart people out there" is condescending, arrogant, and elitist (then again, maybe that is EXACTLY who he has been all along). The damage has indeed been done but it was entirely self-inflicted. The American public was fooled once... They won't be fooled twice by the rhetoric and hollow promises (or styrofoam Greek columns for that matter)... Jimmy Carter redux.

Lastly, what a hypocrite you are TimMcM... Chastising others for using names like "Obummer". This coming from the person who routinely calls another poster "Menstrual". You are the most juvenile, vindictive poster on here who routinely gets into intense and often personal battles with anyone who disagrees with you (then tries to use pathetic excuses after you've embarrassed yourself for the 2,333rd time like "I didn't start it" or "I just respond in kind").

Please keep spinning as we "cons" are laughing at and relishing the spectacle as you and this exposed FAR left president keep digging a deeper hole denying who you are. I suppose I would too knowing this fact... http://www.gallup.com/poll/152021/conservatives-remain-largest-ideological-group.aspx .

Ok fine, I misread your other posts and I'll man up to being incorrect on that like you did to me the other day.

I'm not reporting talking points, I'm telling you how I interpreted the speech. The way he phrased his speech, each sentence was set up as an individual idea relating to the overall theme. He ls lays out several examples of things that were examples of community or government initiative - the American system, education, roads and highways, the internet, and lumps businesses right in the middle of there as if it were another example of something that was not built by an individual.

I know we're talking semantics here, but in the English language very small differences can change the entire message. If he would have said "If you own a business, you did not build those other things" we wouldn't be having this conversation. But he said "if you own a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen" "That" being a singular pronoun, referring back to the noun of the sentence, the business. Just like a teacher educated you, the government built the roads and the internet, somebody else made your business successful. And he didn't say "somebody helped you", he said "somebody made that happen." Again, I'm not arguing the overall context of the message. But the way he laid out the specific example of business owners implies he thinks they are not responsible for their own success.

And so I can't agree with the GOP on a few issues without being a mindless zombie carrying the flag for the party? Go look at my thoughts in the death penalty thread, does that sound like a GOP stance? If a thread comes up on DADT, gay marriage, immigration, or abortion I would argue for what is presumably your side. When is the last time you took a stance that was different from the Democrat platform?

IMO - not saying you Chew, but in general.....

How stupid would the President have to be to insult, on purpose, an entire base of People? My first comments were, ( someone pointed out, he didn't use a TelePrompTer ) is..... He has the Right calling him a Socialist at every opportunity, and he wanted to point out, the Gov has always helped Businesses to succeed. Anyone that took it to mean, if it wasn't for the Govt, our Business would have failed, or because of our Govt, anyone could run a Business, is just looking at something to bitch at....

  • Obama wanted the responsibility of improving the economy as seen in this youtube video. If going to fundraisers is improving the economy, then he is the greatest President of all time. If you judge him by unempolyment numbers and the way the economy is headed, then he is the worst of all time.
