I'm happy bin Laden is dead for personal reasons. But it has been apparent for years he had become a figurehead and irrelevant in the war on terror.

381 US soldiers have died since bin Laden was killed. This year is on pace to be the deadliest on record since we invaded Afghanistan. What exactly is he celebrating!?

By the way, you have to be completely uninformed and ignorant to actually BELIEVE that the search for bin Laden was ever abandoned.

Pretty much abandoned by Bush and Cheney, not the military. Bush apparently thought he was in Iraq. Obama had nothing to do with actually killing him - as has been rightfully pointed out, any president would have done the same, even Romney. But Obama had everything to do with increasing the effort to get him. Everyone has selective amnesia in regards to Bush and Guilani running around touting themselves as 9-11 guys, as if any other president and NYC Mayor would not have done the same thing; minus Iraq, of course.

  • McCague--If anyone would have done it, then why is he taking another round of bows, a full year later? Announcing from Afghanistan on the anniversary was the ultimate grandstand. And shooting campaign ads the same week, suggesting Romney wouldn't have done the same....Weak.

On the other hand---I do give Obama credit for saying yes when the military said "we have him". Good for Obama.

And something we can all agree on? I'm thrilled that bin Laden is probably getting it up the ole poop-chute from Demon-goats and pigs on a daily basis for eternity. And seeing what suffering was caused by the WTC attack, I'm pleased to believe that fire is also involved in his punishment.

definitely. sure, he made the call when he was discovered, but who wouldn't???

I give him credit for spending more than any before him though, adn adding 50% to the debt. great spender!

Giving Obama the credit is a slap in the face to all the Navy Seals, CIA, and other special forces that put in the time and effort to get this piece of shit.

My understanding of the actual situation is that the Sec of Defense actually authorized the strike and then informed the POTUS once it was underway. And the POTUS' political manager, Jarrett, actually rejected the plan more than once.

Why are Republicans always laying claim to being the best on national security and the military? They have half the country believing that crap. That's all we heard after 9-11, that look what Bush did, we're lucky he was president. Really? We had to listen to Guliani bring up 9-11 every time he opened his mouth - a noun, a verb, and 9-11. Cheney even went so far as to say we would be attacked again if Kerry were to be elected. Kerry, the guy who actually was fighting in a war when Bush and Cheney and their whole crew were enjoying deferments.
Obama reminds people who actually went after Bin Laden and he gets crucified for it. Bush would have gone on tour to tout it. But that was Bush who pretty much said he didn't know and didn't care where Bin Laden was, wasn't it? Obama focused in on Bin Laden from the start, not Bush. His orders were to renew the effort, that is what brought us to that point in time in order for him to give the go ahead. And you're right, any other president could have made the call at that point, but it was Obama who directed troops back into Afghanistan where they belonged all along, not in Iraq. When Obama made the statement while campaigning that he would go into Pakistan after Bin Laden if Mubaric failed to act Romney said he wouldn't do that. So what would he have done to get Bin Laden?
It has always been just fine for Republicans to brag, but Democrats must remain humble. That would be OK, but half the population probably still thinks Bush policy is what got Bin Laden. It's time Democrats started telling people about accomplishments the way Republicans have always done. It may not feel right, but that's the game in today's politics.

BTW, I have never said Romney wouldn't have made the same decision to kill Bin Laden, quite the opposite. Read my post.
