Obama inherited (from you know who) the most robust intelligence and security apparatus in American history. They had a bead on bin Laden for 3+ months before they even TOLD Obama in fear that he'd call the whole thing off.
Panetta (by no means a hawk himself) is on record saying Obama knew nothing up to 2 weeks before the mission, and on the day of the mission Obama had to be dragged off the golf course in order to get the now famous deer-in-headlights photo-op from the command room.
Beyond those few facts above that are on the record, those who actually participated in the mission are bound by a code of silence, which allows Obama to get away with all this unseemly and pompous spiking of the football. Thankfully Obama makes for such a hilarious and unconvincing hero most Americans aren't buying it (i.e. there has been no Osama "bounce" for Obama).

Even those of us who disagree with most things the President currently does have to continue to respect the Office of the Presidency. That cannot be overstated enough. I was so sick of people calling Bush a war criminal and making movies about him being assassinated while in office, so I made a point to overtly respect the Presidency while Obama is there.
Look, our military has been and will continue to be the greatest fighting force in history. They're awesome. Obama deserves credit for giving the green light and it should have ended there. This was over & celebrated a long time ago.
Where people have an issue on this whole thing is the inferrence that Romney wouldn't have done the same thing, which is irresponsible at best. That's why Obama has been criticized by both right & left: This is supposed to be an American triumph, not a partisan one.
When Arianna Huffington is criticizing a Democrat President, you know he made a mistake.

None of you will ever know what really went down and what Obama's actual role in this was....PERIOD.... and anyone that writes about knowing is a liar.... because everything that he said and did is CLASSIFIED..... END OF STORY.... and just for the record... I'm not an Obama supporter... there will be books and a movie is being produced but most of the stuff in them will be stuff that was told to the american public... the rest will all be FICTION....just like all of you supposed links... anyone who divulges classified information is a Traitor... and will be prosecuted to the fullest extension of the law... I said this on another thread... outside of congress... there are maybe 40 people who know the entire story from beginning to end... my son was one of them and thus he was honored to be able to escort this group of seals to congress when they told them their story... any one who is in intel in the Special Forces will know that what I wrote is 100 % correct... My son is a very high ranking officer who works with all intel groups in the US and has the coins to prove it...
PS... as a mom with three sons who served and do serve of course I give 99% of the honor and credit to the brave Seals who risk their lives everyday for our flag and our country and I highly recommend the film Act of Valor... your respect for them and the job they do will increase a lot after watching this film...

Seattle, a quick note: Special Ops, not Special Forces. Special Forces are a component of the army, and, along with Delta, SEALs, EOD, combat controlers, PJs, SOAR, 75th Rangers, Force Recon, etc... constitute Special Ops. And I am in total agreement with you. By definition, covert/clandestine ops are by definition, classified/ secret, and should be guarded as such. Simply reporting the bastard was killed in a mission performed by Special Ops would have been more than sufficient. This administration would have you believe no other unit but Seal Team 6/ DEVGRU could have squared away the kidnappers in Somalia, less simple raids.
And, once more, you've done a great job raising your sons. You should be proud of yourself & their service to our country.
