If Obama care is unconstitutional........?

  • How will this decision effect the election?

Will Obama be able to blame republican judges and it hurt Romney? Or do enough people not like Obama care that this will help?
Will it hurt our constitutional law professors chances at re-election if his major piece of legislation is unconstitutional?
Will it not matter at all because voters won't understand the huge different in Romney care being at the state level and Obamacare being at the federal level?

Given Obama is an individual who specialized in constitutional law, forcing in a bill that is deemed "unconstitutional", I'm not sure how it can hurt anyone BUT him.

  • I think it would hurt him, especially if the entire law is struck down. If it's just the mandate but the rest stands, it still hurts him, but not as much.

There are a lot of sound consumer protections in the law. Who here thinks your insurance company should be able to drop you when you need expensive medical care? Does anyone want to cover their kids under their policy until they are 25? If you have to change jobs but have a chronic medical condition and are happy to be premiums, do you think you should be refused insurance?

  • I dont really want to get into the merits of the bill or anything like that, but the president seems ready to go on the offensive vs the court an to me it seems that could hurt more than being struck down alone.

  • Since a majority of Americans don't like Obamacare it won't help him.

If the individual mandate gets struck down, the bill is basically done. But the kicker is that it's a fiscal policy thing. So what happens to all the tax increases and such? I don't know.

    Anybody have an idea?

I was trying to find good info on. That and so much comes up so didn't know public support.

  • The next step is single-payer insurance, or a total goverment takeover of healthcare. We're not going back to the way it was.

I think it will energize the losing side. If Obamacare is declared Constitutional, then it will energize the GOp to elect Romney. If Obamacare gets struck down, it will energize the Democrats. As far as Romneycare, I think everyone or most everyone understands the difference from the State level to the Federal level.

The Supreme Court is liked by the American people. I definitely think it will hurt Obama if he comes out attacking them.

Total government takeover isn't in the near future. Do you understand the fiscal consequences of having the gov't pay for everything? If you think medicaid/medicare are expensive now.....A single payer is more likely for the Dem's to push next but they are going to have to wait to get the House back on their side of the fence. But this is only speculation until June or so when the Court comes out with it's decision.
