  • Time to scarp current system and start over. I am pretty sure no one outside of Washington would notice if 2/3 of the politicians were without jobs tomorrow. Those who started this nation weren't being paid but were volunteers. Sounds like a start to me

The debt ceiling is for money ALREADY spent. It allows the gov to borrow money to pay the bills for services and goods ALREADY PURCHASED. Congress, including the GOP House passed spending bills for all that money and it is already spent. A president cannot spend money except for expenditures PASSED by Congress.

So your thread starter just shows that you apparently do not understand how the government works. Perhaps if you did you would stop posting these stupid "catcha Obama" threads because the only one "gotten" is you.

That will be up to Congress, including the GOP controlled House. The president cannot pass a spending bill, he can only sign or veto the spending bills passed by Congress.

This means that Obama cannot spend money on his own - so maybe you yahoos should take a couple of civic lessons so you can stop looking so damn dumb as you try to blame everything on Obama.

That seem to work just fine for the libs when Bush was in office and the Dems had control of everything else, and as for your post above, the point is stop spending now. It may be money already spent, but that does not change the fact that we need to stop spending money like we are.

I agree that we need to cut spending but to blame the president alone, when the specific amounts of money that the gov can spend have to passed in the House and the Senate.

People on here who post as if it is Obama's fault that the debt ceiling keeps going up are just showing their ignorance about how the government works.

I would love to have real discussions on here where partisanship is parked at the door, but in every thread the lemmings have to work in attacks on Obama. Most of those, like this the debt ceiling issue, is done in ignorance.

I can guarantee you that Schaef is not an Obama supporter.

As explained over and over, Obama is NOT THE PROBLEM when it comes to the debt ceiling issue.

They never get it but to be fair it is not his (their) fault. Because this happens all the time I decided to try to figure out why this seems to be happening more and more. This is what I found:

When you get on Bucknuts if you scroll down the comment/posts are introduced as "Latest Topics" and it lists the most recently posted comments WITHOUT IDENTIFICATION OR EXPLANATION OF THE BOARDS. So if a "freshman" clicks on the first item it is the most recent post from any board. Statistically speaking, chances are it will not be from Hot Spot. When it is not the person just jumps in on the conversation. They do this a couple of times and sooner or later they hit a post from Hot Spot, with the board not explained/identified. Then they post WTF is this doing on a football site and then we (Hot Spotters, LOL) take turns schooling them.

Problem is our schooling acts as if they came to Hot Spot and then posted something really dumb. They did not and have no way of knowing what board the post came from.

This is a problem only the Site Gods can fix but they almost certainly won't because it is not a problem for them.

What would be good is if under "Latest Topic" there was a brief description of the various boards and beside each latest post there was an identifier of the board it is from. I think that would be more user friendly and an improvement to the site.

Honestly, I think bucknuts/247 sports could fix this easily. All they need to do is cut out the feed to the 5 changing topics on the landing page. As much as I cringe when I see the "it's a football site" posts, it may lead to having fresh blood infused in the debates. I am sure for every post we read about it being a "football site" there are several more who click, view, and don't comment.

Tim is partially correct. The Congress spends the money but everyone even Obama submits a budget proposal. Eventually one is agreed upon but that has not happened since the Dem's took control of the Senate over 3 years ago.. Obama submitted his budget that was defeated 99-1 last year. It was so outragious that not even Harry Reid would vote for it. The Dem. controlled Senate has not submitted/passed a budget since they took control. We spend 3.9 trillion per year and take in only 2.2 trillion per year.
Expenditures have grown by about 1.9 trillion in the last 15 years. Both parties are to
blame. Its easy to spend other peoples money and buy votes. Neither side wants
to make the tough cuts but a budget would be helpful. Why no budget? It's all politics...

    hammerhead

  • Tim you are partially right, but to say that he doesn't set the tone for what his party does in the house and senate is a little misguided though right?

The healthcare and the "stimulus" were his, under his guidance and urging. He's responsible for what he signs, so he owns it just like Bush owned his, no matter who controls the house/senate.

But you are right, there are serious problems in washington and it's not just Obama, it's a lot of punch drunk senators and house reps left over that just don't understand the budget.

    Paul Ryan for President!!

    mpenn77

  • It's basic math for those who want to comment on these types of topics. If one's household income is over 200k, put the republicans in, if below put the democrats in. All other social issues that these parties differ on probably don't affect one's day to day lives unless they like to stick their noses in other peoples business.

Obama's budget, submitted in Jan. was defeated 97-0 because the dems thought a budget deal was being formulated with the repubs based on changes Obama proposed in April.

"Democratic aides said ahead of the vote that the Democratic caucus would not support the plan because it has been supplanted by the deficit-reduction plan Obama outlined at a speech at George Washington University in April.

No Democratic senator was willing to support it, however, after Obama discussed a more ambitious plan at George Washington University to save $4 trillion over 12 years."
