Obama's White House Leaks Like A Sieve

  • Even Dems are saying that these leaks are compromising US intelligence all so Obama can make himself look better.

Top Lawmakers declare war on intelligence leaks

WASHINGTON (AP) — Leaders of the Senate and House intelligence committees said Thursday they were drafting legislation to further limit who can access highly classified information and possibly impose new penalties for revealing it.

The head of the House intelligence committee said he will investigate recent leaks, but the CIA and the Justice Department national security division said they would not cooperate.

The action comes after recent leaks of sensitive information about the covert drone and cyber wars against terrorism.

"There has been just a cascade of leaks coming out of the intelligence community in the last several weeks and months," the vice chairman of the Senate intelligence committee, Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., told reporters. "It's our clear intention to put a stop to this."

The bipartisan news conference of the four top lawmakers was spurred by a series of media reports detailing everything from White House policy on the highly classified targeting of al-Qaida militants by drones and raids, to the White House reportedly deploying the cyber weapon known as Stuxnet, a malicious computer code that knocked Iranian nuclear processing centrifuges offline.

The House Intelligence Committee chairman, Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said his committee would formally investigate the leaks, though he said the process would be hampered because two branches of government said they would not participate.

"Just today the CIA informed the (committee) that it cannot respond to our request for information regarding the leaks, a very troubling event indeed," Rogers said.

The CIA has come under fire for allegedly sharing with Hollywood filmmakers classified details of last year's U.S. raid into Pakistan that killed Osama bin Laden.

Rogers said the Justice Department's National Security Division also withdrew itself "with respect to at least one investigation regarding disclosures."

Rogers initially said that indicated the leaks may have come from the FBI or Justice Department, but later clarified that it showed "the serious complications facing the department in investigating these matters."

There are at least three investigations ongoing into disclosures of classified information.

Leading Republicans like Arizona Sen. John McCain have accused the White House of spilling national security secrets to boost the president's reputation in an election year — a charge the White House dismissed Thursday.

"The president feels very strongly that we must prevent leaks of classified or sensitive information" that could jeopardize intelligence or other operations, White House spokesman Jay Carney said. "Any suggestion that the White House has leaked sensitive information for political purposes has no basis in fact."

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said Congress wants the White House to notify lawmakers at least 48 hours in advance and explain when it chooses to disclose national secrets.

You do realize that congress also could be purposefully leaking this intel and they don't even have to have security clearances or sign any documents that result in severe consequences for leaks like all the CIA FBI and other government employees... facts are YOU and the other CONS don't have the first clue who's leaking info or why or how.... but keep pretending you know the whole 'dirty story'.... more prater without facts... you repub men sure do love to gossip..

That's why there is an all out effort by a few Senators to figure out why some things are being leaked. But, if it's classified, it shouldn't be leaked by anyone until it's de-classified.

  • When GWB was pres: Leaks = Waterboarding and Enhance Interigation Techniques (EITs) exposed, Secret prison programs, Renditions, and NSA listening program. That's just naming the ones I remember off the top of my head. Leaks have become an appropriate political (assasination) tool and should be challenged.

IMO this has nothing to do with the (R) or (D) in front of the name. Classified is Classified and leaks should be pursued and prosecuted. It is borderline treason. Journalist doesn't want to give their source, they go to jail for contempt. If it is Congress, impeach them. If it is military or civilian then revoke clearances and jail them.

These leaks do have real world consequences. Look what happened to the doctor in packistan who helped us get OBL. He is now in prison because of leaks and our countrys lack of planning in extracting he and his family... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/30/shakil-afridi-bin-laden-hunt_n_1555198.html
I even pulled the link from the huff&puff so you wouldn't say it was a conservative spin job.

Biggest leak of all Valerie Plame in the CIA by Chaney ... the repubs that said Obama must be leaking for his own glorification... I merely called them out because none of us knows why or by whom it was done but they already claim to..... My sons are in intel so of course I know the consequences...

Who's "Chaney"? I hope the apple falls FAR from the tree if your sons are in intel otherwise there goes more wasted taxpayer dollars for remedial information.

Scooter LIbbey (an Aide to cheney) was prosecuted for the Plame incident not Cheney .

I've reserved judgment on the WH leak issue for now, but this does fit the modus operandi of how the democrats acted with Bush and seems to mirror the "Fast and Furious" scandal. I believe Plame may have been a retaliation for the GWB leak events, but I have no proof. Obviosuly Mr. Libbey f'ed up or got paid to take a fall. I believe it was the prior as I am not sure Ken Star would have stopped if he thought Cheney (not many liked him in Wash) was guilty.

Even democrats want answers and I feel this is one of the few times Congress calling for an investigation is appropriate (unlike steroid cases, etc) http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/08/us/calls-grow-for-special-counsel-to-investigate-leaks.html

I'll accept an opinion, just as I have given mine, but please step away from th partisan ledge when both parties are calling for a special investigation and tougher sanctions on leaks.

I'm in favor of an impartial investigation by a special prosecutor... .Leaking is a horrible crime because it puts so many people in danger... .. most people think it was really Cheney that leaked Plame but Scooter fell on the sword for his former boss( even a lot of cons I know)...

There would be no reason for the Republicans to leak this info as it was meant to make Obama look better.

  • Richard Armitage who worked at the State Dept for Secretary of State Colin Powell was "the" leaker who gave the late columnist Robert Novak Valerie Plame's name. Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald found this out at the beginning of his investigation.

  • Looks like the WH might be in trouble...

A second Times account revealed that Israel and the US produced the Stuxnet virus and launched a cyberwar against Iran’s nuclear computers. The article described a 2010 meeting on the classified program, using quotations from Obama and Vice President Joe Biden attributed to “members of the president’s national security team who were in the room.”
    http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/secrets_of_success_FhbDZyjrzrilMX9wdc21TJ

There are logs of attendees for these meeting, so it should be really quick work in determining the source.

I guess the game now is blaming one of the attendees organizations for a rogue element (CIA, FBI, NSA, SecDef, Nat Sec Council memeber - just guessing who may have been present) and not a WH staffer? You typically sign NDA agreements and have the words "top secret" stamped all over the pages, cute cover sheets that say the same and the laws that make it enforceable, etc. It should have been pretty obvious to all attendees. Knowing what I know and relying on what Seattlebuck often tells us on bucknuts - those in the intelligence community know what can happen and it is career threatening - so I am not sure they would have taken an independent action. Most military are disciplined enough to stay out of the fray on items of this nature. I do have to ask the obvious question, so I wonder outloud "Was the leak ordered?"

Can you comapre that to the Obama Administration who are leaking info all over the place, and all of it is supposed to make Obama look like a badass. No investigation, no one is taking responsibility, and the stonewalling is currently going on.
