Regardless of who won tonight the fact of the matter is that the United States of America is presently borrowing $ .40 for every dollar it spends. It is mathematically impossible to continue this trend. We can preach about people paying their "fair share" all we want but at some point, we are going to have to cut spending. I don't think we elected a guy that has any intention of doing that.

What is sad is that the very people that have helped put the guy in office will be the very first who suffer when their pensions are cut, health benefits slashed, retirement packages dropped, etc. when it is time to start paying back all the money. Some of you will be fortunate to be dead before that happens. Some of you young teachers, police officers, firemen, union workers, members of the military etc. might not be so lucky.

Look no further than our spend happy state of California. It is going bankrupt. The nation is following a similar path.

On top of the economy, we have the huge problem of debt. The Republicans spent record money under Bush. Obama has tripled those numbers. We're heading towards Greece and Italy. Both parties will get us there, but it's pretty clear that Obama will get us there faster. It's not all his fault, but he's definitely made it worse.

I have four soon-to-be-adult children. What I fear the most is that they will inherit the consequences of our generation's lack of restraint, and it will have a permanent and profound suffocating effect on their economy and their prosperity. Think Spain. They may not experience growth for a generation. I really think that is a possibility - I am not trying to be Chicken Little. We desperately need to balance the budget - we cannot continue to add further to the debt. Obama wants to do it by extracting it from the wealthy. On the face of it, that's fine - all taxation policy is arbitrary anyway - there is no universal truth on taxation fairness. The problem is, the "deficit" is the smaller problem. The BIG one is our accumulated debt and the position it puts us in with respect to our creditors (i.e. China) and our ability to influence currency valuations and balance of trade discrepancies. We can never "pay off" a 15 trillion dollar debt - the shoulders of "the wealthy" are not broad enough. We will have to outgrow the debt - to expand our economy to the point where, a generation down the road, a 15 trillion dollar debt is not such a large percentage of our GDP. That will never happen if Obama's vision of class warfare prevails. He targets the "rich" households that have joint incomes greater than $250K, which account for the upper 2-3% of the population. Most of those people are successful, but the majority aren't "rich". They have more disposable income than others, but they are still working hard to generate an income, and are as vulnerable to changes in the economy as anyone else. The truly "rich" - Romney's class - aren't living off of salary or wages, but off of established assets - investments, trusts, etc. - and they're taxed at 14% capital gains rates, not the 40ish%-plus marginal income tax rates (or more) the ">250K " group will see under Obama. The problem is, that's where most of the NEW consumer spending is occurring right now. When Obama tries to balance the budget on the backs of that small segment, you can say good-bye to the slow and fragile economic recovery we think we are seeing. You can say good-bye to the stabilization of the housing market and home values. These consequences - arrested growth in economic activity, continued unemployment, and declining home equity - will have a far more profound negative influence on the well-being of America's middle class than any positive effect they might see by having the "rich" provide more tax revenue for entitlements - or even for more legitimate expenses. Economic growth is the only way out of this mess, and I fear we are teetering on the edge of another crisis. Europe is not buying our goods and services. South America is not. If Americans don't provide the demand, we will have to look to China again - and I'm afraid that even they can't buy enough of our stuff to fuel sustained growth of our economy. Oh, I forgot, they make all our stuff anyway. Well, then, I don't see a solution.

Alright, that's enough ranting. I need to put the Bourbon away and get some sleep.

I think it will be much closer than a "large margin".

It is currently 281-201, and that doesn't include electoral votes from FL, VA, or CO - all three states in which Obama has a late lead. It will be a "large margin" I'm afraid.

What makes you think that? Everything I am seeing tells me Obama is going to win both the popular vote and the electoral college.

Obama is now leading in BOTH the electoral college AND the popular vote.

The news media is reporting that Romney has called the President to concede the election, and that his motorcade is now en route to the hall to make the concession speech. It's over.

President Obama has won four more years !

This is the only reason I vote. Sadly, I believe the whole thing is an illusion. No real choice. No difference. The two parties just manipulate the population and pit us against each other. Mostly based on non sense that isn't or wont ever become true. I'm with ohiost83. The Federal Reserve is in charge. He who holds the purse strings as they say. Mainly, it just makes for good theater. Maybe good isn't the right word. Tragic? Ultimately everyday including tomorrow morning I have to wake up and make my own fortune. That won't ever change regardless of who sits in that big White House.

You are mistaken in your believe that there was no real difference in the two candidates. That couldn't be further from the truth.

    Electoral college........yes

Popular vote..... 2pts....enough, but IMO not large.

Now I know how the Dems felt when Dubya got his second term.

As for the spending problem with our Federal government.......utterly irresponsible. In layman terms, the USA has jacked up it's use of every credit card available, taking advantage of promotional interest rates, while take home pay has gone south. More spending is fueled by more credit card use, and debt vs. income ratio is way too high.

Washington is living way too large.

I am nervous and excited too. Being a Romney supporter in NYC isn't the easiest spot to be in. If Romney wins, I will be working remotely with a romney-ryan bumpsticker on my laptop in coffee houses on the Upper West Side, Park Slope, the village and any other obnoxiously liberal area of this city for the next week. Pretty certain I will get kicked out of a few along the way. More than likely, I will be the sad clown just like 2008 though. Hopefully my fellow Buckeyes will make me proud....

Its good you can be objective! Your words are EXACTLY what the problem is in Washington. Republicans have to have it their way or they take their ball and go home. Well WAKE UP! The old white men can't run the country anymore. It is a diverse country. I lived in NYC for 21 years and we all can get alone if we try. I now live in Florida, and OH MY GOD what a disaster of a state. The governor takes away 6 days of pre-voting, so the African AMERICANS can't take busses to vote after church last Sunday. A DIRECT attempt of a Republican governor to sway the election in the direction of HIS party. Romney could have won, too bad the 50's are well behind us. THE BUCKEYE state was AMAZING. We, of course, in Republican Florida still have no clue who we voted for. Sorry for your loss! :).

Wow, I can't disagree with you anymore......The old white men? Are you serious? Are you a racist? Funny you mention the issue in FLA and yet, no comment about Black panthers hanging out in Philly in front of polling place or even the mural of Obummer and his campaign pledge INSIDE the polling place, against state law which we saw all night? Your folks in FLA could of voted by mail if they wished to, so let's not use a salty bus excuse, that is very lame.
More folks on foodstamps, bigger govt, and higher debt increase in one term in history, and this is our new govt. God help us.

People set their hair on fire for every election and I have yet have an election directly affect my living situation or personal success. Maybe I am lucky or maybe people simply overreact. Don't get me wrong I still vote because I have a preference but I do not freak out if I do not get my elected preference.

I agree, I think for most people it is about winning and being right rather than the true impact of an election on their day to day lives.

A lot of people vote against the candidate who would actually benefit them the most because they either dont know any better, were raised on one side or the other or they know at the end of the day, not much will change in their day to day lives either way.
