It's bad because more kids out of public schools the less they can indoctrinate with Left Wing ideology. Plus, in private schools they will actually be educated, not be spoon fed liberal agenda. Plus, no teachers union to collect dues from to give to Democratic politicians.

Don't really have a problem with this. High School kids should have already developed their core beliefs by that age. It isn't like they are opening an elementary school for the underprivleged so that they can get some young kids and indoctrinate them. Either way, it is a private enterprise and they are free to do what they want.
As to a general distaste for it, you might be able to see it if you replaced 'Catholic' with any religion you tend to disagree with. What if it was a Celtic group opening a Pagan school for poor people? Would there be any objection to that?

That's an interesting point that you bring up, 'instead of Catholic, insert religion here.' I never really thought of it that way except there are other private schools that might be Lutheran or just your everyday Academies that don't have any religious affiliation. In my mind, as long as the school was putting out kids that are educated/graduate/go to college, I think people would be ok with it.
2nd thought. There are a number of small town, public schools that have religion classes during the school day. Some on campus, some off campus but during the school day.
I think it should be available for kids to be able to choose where they get their education, public or private. Out gov't spends all kinds of money everyday on crap, wouldn't it make sense to actually spend money on educating our kids? Giving the kids and their parents a choice to be able to send them to a private school where statistically they get a better education, graduate at higher rates, go to college at higher rates?

Valid point. If it were a school based on Scientology, I probably wouldn't have started the thread.
It's still freedom of choice for the parents and students. It's people trying to help other people without government in efforts to provide a greater good.

Its a pleasure to talk to people that use reason and can see others points of veiw without getting defensive. I agree it is a freedom of choice thing and more power to both parties. However, if it were just about people helping other people, then they could do it without the religious trapping. The help comes with a price. Part of Catholic school includes attending mass, partaking in a religion class, and many other religious activities. Let's face it, they do things like this to gain new Catholics. I am familiar with Catholic schools and realize that they accept people from different religions, and even atheists into their schools. But, they are still expected to respect the religion of the school and partake in the religion classes and special activities.
