Wait, i am confused, I have seen posted on this board by some freindly folks from the far left that the USA is producing more oil now than it has for decades? that Obama alone made this happen. http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/story/2011-12-16/us-oil-boom/52053236/1
Now you come along and say that our production was maxed out over 30 some odd years ago?
So i should be dumb enough to beleive the folks making the claim that we are producing more now than ever? or dumb enough to belive your statement?

g - your untrue sarcasm aside, who said it was Obama alone (?), you should be dumb enough to accept the statements about increased oil production and the decrease in the import of foreign oil from whoever says it because that is what the facts indicate. The title of your own article suggests that those are facts: "Oil boomlet sweeps U.S. as exports and production rise." And the body of it confirms it. "The U.S. exported more oil-based fuels than it imported in the first nine months of this year, making it likely that 2011 will be the first time since 1949 that the nation is a net exporter of such goods, primarily diesel. That's not all. The U.S. has reversed another decades-long trend. It began producing more crude oil in 2008 than the year before and accelerated that upswing 3% in the first nine months of this year compared with the same period in 2010. That production has helped reduce U.S. imports of crude oil by about 10% since 2006."
More proof is contain within this Factcheck on Newt's lies (then repeated over and over on Fox/con-talk radio.
"GINGRICH: "Under President Obama, because he is so anti-American energy, we actually had a 40 percent reduction in the development of oil offshore, and we have had a 40 percent reduction in the development of oil on federal lands." THE FACTS: Gingrich bases this statement on a figure published by the Energy Information Administration that has since been retracted because it was incorrect. The figure left out an entire subset of production. In addition, the erroneous number represented both oil and gas production on public lands, while Gingrich cites only oil. For offshore, the energy information agency data show production has surged in the first two years of the Obama administration after being on a downward trend since 2003. In 2008, prior to Obama taking office, Gulf oil production hits its lowest level in a decade." http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5ji0PfCp_YsKUlG-tiUhYrH87wJqw?docId=5b2c0233155941ecb2ef142d4ddae51e
And there a lot more articles saying the same thing, for example: "US net oil imports lowest since 1996" http://soberlook.com/2011/12/us-net-oil-imports-lowest-since-1996.html

Huh? So now I am dumb Tim? you really are something.
A few months ago this was bandied about on the board and a couple of the loony far left posters were claiming Obama himself has achieved this feat. I was told that Obama was pumping more oil out of the ground here in the US than any other president in history, I tried to say that the President has very little to do with this and they were wrong in it being the most in history, but was just blown off by such posters.
I really have no idea what you are trying to argue with my post? I never defended Gingrich in my posts, didnt even mention the idiot, never bashed Obama in my post either, Was just asking Urban to back up his claim because of a couple loony posters on here that were claiming the opposite. Never said you were the poster, but you never called them Dumb for making a false claim, but somehow I am.
Why do you have to make every post personal? I did not, I thought your motto was you only reply in kind? care to show me where I called you dumb?

The mod asked the candidates what they would do, if anything, to lower gas prices (or something of that nature) and the candidates sidestepped the question to continue talking about Iran/Syria.
The only one to actually take on the question was Newt and Newt mentioned opening up federal lands which he said would make us the number one oil producing country in the world, making it to where we would never have to depend on Arab oil again.
