Buckeye Recruiting Week In Review

The week began on Sunday morning as I posted the latest edition of my 2012 Ohio State Hot List. With all of the commitments the previous week, Urban Meyer’s deck was once again reshuffled. However, the guy at the top of the list did not change.

Marcus made an official visit to Ohio State last weekend

Speaking of commitments, offensive lineman Taylor Decker was an absolutely huge commitment for Meyer. On Sunday Bucknuts.com had exclusive video of Decker courtesy of our friends at ScoutingOhio.com. The video features Decker “Pancaking” his opponent on every play.

Linebacker Jamal Marcus made an official visit to Ohio State last weekend. The visit went well, but Marcus’ mother wanted him to sit down with his family and lay everything out before a decision on a college is made.

Linebacker Reggie Northrup made an official visit to Florida State last weekend. Afterwards Northrup said he would be making an official visit to Ohio State this weekend.

In addition to Marcus, the other prospect making an official visit to Ohio State last weekend was defensive back Demetrious Cox. Cox had a good time at Ohio State, but said he wanted to take one more official visit – either Notre Dame or Wisconsin – before selecting a college.

On Monday Urban Meyer visited Reeves

Offensive lineman Kyle Dodson has made official visits to Wisconsin, Ohio State, Auburn, USC, and then last weekend Michigan State. Dodson said he would entertain visits from the head coaches at all of the schools before selecting a college sometime before National Signing Day.

On Monday morning I posted the latest edition of What I Am Hearing. In this edition I had information on WR Ricquan Southward and the speculation that he might not sign with the Buckeyes, what the OSU staff might need to overcome to land Bam Bradley, a Florida star excited about Meyer visiting him and more.

Offensive lineman Jordan Diamond made an official visit to Arkansas last weekend. Compliments of 247Sports we had the report of how the visit went.

Meyer added linebacker Camren Williams to his 2012 recruiting class and is hoping to add teammate Armani Reeves. Reeves was visited by Brady Hoke last weekend. On Monday Urban Meyer, Everett Withers and Mike Vrabel visited him. Then on Tuesday Michigan assistant Greg Mattison visited Reeves. Reeves will likely make his decision between Ohio State and Michigan in the next couple of days.

Wide receiver Joel Caleb was the first prospect Meyer hosted on an official visit after taking over the Ohio State program. Now almost two months later Caleb says he will announce his decision on National Signing Day. Caleb made official visits to Ohio State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia, and says all three schools remain in the running.

One of the top junior offensive linemen in the state of Ohio, Lovell Peterson, was invited to the Buckeyes’ junior day on Sunday and will be on hand for the Ohio State-Michigan basketball game on Sunday.

On Thursday Bucknuts had another story on Marcus. Marcus said he basically has a school in mind as his pick, but would not be announcing anything until National Signing Day. Marcus said his decision would be either Ohio State or East Carolina and would come at 10:30 on Wednesday morning in his high school gym.

Defensive back Demetrious Cox remains a big Buckeye target. Withers visited with Cox this past week and the two talked for about 40 minutes. Cox is making his final official visit this weekend.

It was indeed a very busy week for Buckeye recruiting and another very busy week here at Bucknuts.com. That is not going to change as we begin a new week tomorrow with my Sunday feature which this week is a preview of the Buckeyes’ junior day on Sunday.
