Defensive tackle Donovan Munger (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) made his official visit to Ohio State this weekend and the trip was more than enough to convince Munger to become verbal commitment No. 19 for Urban Meyer’s 2013 recruiting class.
Munger is a 4-star prospect and the country's No. 18 defensive tackle in the 247Sports rankings.
"He went down to Ohio State with his mom," Shaker Heights coach Jarvis Gibson said moments ago. "He committed. He shook coach Meyer's hand and committed."
The 6-foot-4 and 285-pound Munger, a starter the past three seasons on both sides of the line, has been recruited by the Buckeyes as a defensive tackle.
"He committed to Ohio State as a defensive tackle," Gibson said.
Prior to his trip to Columbus Munger had made one other official visit, a trip to UCLA the weekend of Nov. 17 when the Bruins hosted USC. Other schools that had been in the running for Munger’s services included Michigan State, Georgia, Tennessee, Louisville, West Virginia, Pitt and Indiana.
"He's done," Gibson said when asked if Munger would visit any other schools. "We don't do that once you give your word."
Munger was in Columbus the weekend of Nov. 24 for the Ohio State-Michigan game and was a part of the huge throng of fans that stormed the field after the Buckeyes’ victory.
Munger is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports rankings. He is the country’s No. 18 defensive tackle and the No. 15 prospect in Ohio.
Kurelic’s Comment: Munger gives the Buckeyes another outstanding defensive lineman, but he also has the flexibility to flip to offense if needed.
